Facelift LED lights... how to run as DRL?

Hoping someone can help answer a question, wondering if there is any coding etc available that allows you to run the LED 'angel eye' or whatever it is called (circled in pic below) as a DRL when in auto light mode. I've tried searching the forum but not really seeing an answer, I know you can enable them as parking lights but my thought is to run them similar to the angel eyes on a BMW as DRLs. Any ideas? Apologies if I'm completely clueless on a way to do this now...

You need the Mercedes software to change that I believe. Here in Canada they are set so you can't change them unless you have the merc scanner.

That's generally true for most things on OBDII cars, even the OEM illuminated doorsills. However, is this actually something that can be turned on (e.g., on my Range Rover Sport, there is no possible way to turn on the OEM "angel eyes")?

The C63 is at Mercedes getting some custom paint work and the illuminated sills - I'll ask the dealer tomorrow if they can turn on those lights as DRLs.

Yeah that is my point, hoping there is a vendor out there doing coding for our cars that can enable this. In the BMW scene there are tons of guys doing remote coding for all sorts of feature/function changes, hoping something similar for MB.

Not worth asking, the dealer won't be any help I'm sure.

I actually have a pretty good relationship with the tech and body shop guys because I ask questions and want things that no one else does, so I'll give it a shot!

Cool man, let us know how it goes. I just don't see them helping you modify your car from the stock setup, particularly given it will likely require some custom programming.

Did you get the illuminated doorsills from the dealer as well or are they just handling the installation?

Seriously I can't be the first person that thought of this?

Any forum vendors have input? Clearly there is a market here...

Yes, the parts department ordered them for me - they are special order from Germany. Unfortunately, the car is apparently NOT pre-wired for them, making this quite an expensive mod for the benefit. Due to the parts being special order, they cannot be returned. They have to be wired back to the trunk then a setting enabled in the computer.

This is a long-shot, but check out the engineering menu (see below).

Someone could also try the following, which I found in another thread here: http://www.takingthingsapart.org/ind...d=68&Itemid=88. An email to these guys might be helpful: http://www.benzline.com.sg/index.html. I found a Singapore-based Benz forum, and Benzline seemed to be the go-to company for re-programming the computer to handle retrofitted projector headlights.

Okay, so I spoke with the tech who was working on my car. There is not an obvious on/off setting in the menus that he knows how to access, but he said that's not to say it can't be done.

My guess it that because it's not actually used as a DRL in any country, it would likely have to be a deeper programming option to tie it to the lower LED lights.

I have a buddy who told me you can use most of the lights as DRL as long as you specify, with the software. He use to work for some import company. He did all the DRL lights for different car manufacturers, entering Canada. Here in Canada it's the law to have DRL. I have a friend who has texza software which he believes can do it but I'm a little apprehensive.

Each car's system is a little different, and the intended DRL's required in Canada and other countries actually come programmed with an on/off setting normally.

Here, the system would have to be tweaked a little to tie the headlight LED setup to the lower LEDs when the motor is running, because the only existing link is when the car is locked and unlocked... Someone should try emailing Benzline or using the GUI programmer though. You can't really mess something up just by taking a look.

Tagging along to see if it can be done by software, modifying a relay or a simple rewire.

I thought I saw a couple of 507 videos with just these lights on...maybe euro versions?

The easiest mod would be to tie in the current DRLs to this circuit and tag along on all of the software programming.

If you move the light selector from auto to either left or right it puts the bottom LED running strip on also along with the side lights and the lights you want on.

I have my side markers painted so only the bottom LED and the light you want on is shows on my car.

I realize its annoying to swap between light settings, but I wonder if I disable DRL if it would just put on the lights you want without the bottom led strip..

Does it work that way up in canada eh?

It's used as DRL for the C63 Black Series in Canada.

It should turn on for the BS if you enable DRL on US cars under the lighting menu? At least that's what MB Canada told me.
