Michelin announces replacement for Pilot Super Sport
http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...lot-sport-4-s/
The MPSS is a great tire but "according to Michelin, the upcoming PS4S expands the envelope of performance even further with better wet and dry braking, better lap times, and even better wear; an independent testing lab has estimated the PS4S's life at greater than 30,000 miles." (clearly not estimated using a C63)
"The PS4S doesn't go on sale in the United States until March, initially in 34 sizes to fit 19- and 20-inch wheels. Eventually, the PS4S will completely supplant the familiar Super Sport.
edit: kudos to Wesley Kay and roadkilllrob for having posted on the topic in the depths of another thread.

Their still gonna make em right? I've gone through so many different tires and I still believe PSS are the best out there for the $$$. Second choice (personal dry as **** California Opinion) Pzero Corsa's. But I got absolutely no miles out of those before they needed to be replaced.

It looks like the MPS4 is an upgrade of the MPS3 (?) MPS4 (no 's' suffix) is already on the market in Europe. It's only available in 17 and 18" sizes. It appears to be slotted just below the MPSS.

Talking to Michelin rep during werks reunion and he confirmed the new tire will be called "PS4S" and will be out in spring. It will be replacing pss. He said the performance of the ps4s is so good it's nearly sport cup 2 performance and because of it they are going to have to do a new sport cup.

Launching initially in 17" and 18" at the start of 2016, with 19" due later in 2016 and early 2017, expect the new Michelin Pilot sport 4 to perform extremely well in the group tests this year.
As for the fate of the much loved Pilot Super Sport? This tyre will continue to sit above the Pilot Sport 4, catering to those of us who want an even higher level of performance in 19 inches and above.

I contacted Michelin this afternoon. They confirm that the Sport4S is indeed the intended replacement for the MPSS, and that it will initially be available in 19" and 20" sizes.
They show only one 18" tire on the release schedule so far. It's a 245/40R18 and is due in March.
I asked if the MPSS would continue to be available in 18" sizes. His response was that none of the 18" tires have been marked for discontinuation, and that mgmt usually lets them know when a tire will be discontinued about a year prior to the actual date.

I know we have many threads on this... but I need new rears in spring (losing count... 5th set?).
If I want a daily tire but with better grip for an occasional quarter mile... any better reco that will still get my at least near 10k miles?

The current MPSS also has a 30k mile warranty. However, the small print in Michelin's policy carves that in half for our rear tires:
"Some vehicles come from the vehicle manufacturer with “split fitments”– meaning different size tires on the front and rear axles. Because these tires cannot be rotated as recommended by Michelin, the mileage warranty on each rear tire will cover half the number of miles as the standard mileage warranty for that particular tire design."
Interestingly, that still leaves a 30K warranty on the fronts. In either case, '30000 miles my ***' is right on target.
I got warranty coverage from Michelin (through Discount Tire) after I 'prematurely' wore out my first set of MPSS. Discount told me this was a one-time deal. Has anyone had a different experience?

I put pics in this thread earlier this year. I don't have a full back end shot on my phone. I will try to get one tomorrow

Has anyone been able to apply the Michelin treadwear warranty credit towards a different model Michelin tire? I have AS3's and am planning to switch to these new PSS replacements and it would be nice to apply my inevitable prorated credit. Of course, it wouldn't change my life either way, but just curious.

Reco: Direzza ZII Star Specs
Currently at about 8k on my Direzza ZII Star Specs and absolutely love them. Awesome dry grip and commendable in the wet (though I'm careful with standing water). 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 fit perfectly on stock 18's at stock right height and could probably handle a mild drop without rubbing. Planning on trying Potenza RE-71Rs next, but will go back to the ZII's if they don't work out.
Only downside for daily driving so far is they're pretty loud at highway speeds.
I haven't tracked it so can't speak for what your mileage would be with mixed daily/track time.
