C63 M156 ticking noise
Hello guys,
i´m writting from Germany.
The Dealer said to me my "noise" is normal, but i think this is bull****.
(Other M156 are ways quieter).
My Problem:
I got a ticking/ tapping noise.
It follows the rpm.
I think it is also louder at higher oil temp. (but I can hear it at any oil temp.)
Some recording:
I replaced all head bolts and also all lifters.
The Cam Adjusters are locking, so i think they are not damaged (has already the last available partnumber).
Some guys told me that this problem could be the heads itself (oil supply to the lifters cracked or blocked).
Oil pressure is around 1,5 Bar at idle, and 4.5-4.8 Bar at 3000 rpm
Can anyone help?
Im not motivated, removing the heads again

Is your sound following the rpm?
Can also be heard from the left front wheel (when the hood is closed).
Also i noticed when i pushed the car at higher rpms the sound is quieter.
After a while on idle its getting loader again.

Some have changed out their stuff 3 times even and the noise still persisted.

Yes, injector pulse rate will increase with rpm.
Edit: Completely different vehicle, exact same noise.

Here is a good example:
That is what my car is sound like
and this it how it should sound:
I´ve checked the cam adjuster, they are all locking.
So i think there is no problem at this.

if that isn't a normal M156 sounding engine i dunno what is. mine has gotten louder with age, but always had the same sound. noticed it more after i installed the long tubes. haven't done head studs or lifters yet on my engine.
the only engines that i can think of that do not have that noise are ones that have manually adjusted rockers and their factory spec are really tight. i.e. Honda's

Your 2 videos sound like Vid2 to me which sound like the injectors ticking.

shouldn't we be looking at why oil is leaking down and not holding pressure?
i could easily have the dowel pin and retainer made at any machine shop. maybe even upgrade the plastic retainer to a metal retainer.

I use Motul 8100 5w-40 with LiquiMoly MoS2. If you plan to do so, run Ceratec first, then upon your next oil change add LiquiMoly MoS2. I'm sure LiquiMoly MoS2 could be added mid change interval, but I have not yet confirmed.
Engine runs like a top with that combo.

I would stick with the Motul 8100 because it is 229.5 approved (current MB recommendation) while I believe Motul is only 229.3 - not an oil expert here just going by what I've read from others.
Agreed to do a bottle of Ceratec with your first change to Motul and then LiquiMoly MoS2 thereafter.
