Stock tune on a 507 or BS?
Is it possible for a base c63 tune to be loaded onto a 507 Ed or BS resulting in loss of power?
Has this ever happened to anyone...... dealership 'updates' 507 or BS owner with base C63 tune?
Is this possible?

Not possible by accident / if it's unintended. It requires a regional tech support supervisor, a specially configured laptop and not one but two USB keys to be inserted simultaneously in said laptop for authentication purposes before it would allow any such functionality. All software updates that may get applied at the dealership level (without going through this procedure) are specific to the vehicle VIN.

I also wonder about the other way around..... would it in "theory" be possible to have the OEM 507 or BS tune downloaded onto a base C63 for some gains....... for a 'factory' tune and drivability?
I'm sure it's been done by someone out there overtly or covertly.

Without the aforementioned setup, not at the dealership level. As for whether it is possible in general using other programming tools, the answer is yes. IIRC there was an aftermarket tuner that a few years ago did exactly that - they were selling the OEM P31 tune as their own. It would still void your warranty though.

That procedure is used to make all "unauthorized" changes to the vehicle, like for example completely disabling the T/C & ESP systems on the cars used for the AMG Winter Sporting programs at Gimli. I don't know whether the ECU is wide-open for writing (as in whether you can upload JPEG pictures in the memory space that would normally be reserved for the engine tune), but that is the only way for MB to override the built-in safeguards at the service level.

Most likely a good idea, keeps people from making rash decisions. Though, it is frustrating for power users.

interesting to think MB might be missing out on a market....... by flashing a 507 or P31 or BS tune on your base-model C63......... hardware can handle it...... so why not????????
