I researched this too. I think that the set of features offered is great and it complements what one already has in the AMG screen. The controllers could be interchangeable and these days even ML's 9non AMG) come as an option with the performance media. But each controller has to be loaded with the car's info, weight and so on. So ideally you'd have the one for your car.
If you have a vtec engagement indicator or gauge, you have bigger problems. For starters, you're missing at least two if not four cylinders and all the gubbins that live in them...
