Necessary to change lifters while doing head bolts?
Is it necessary to change the lifters if doing the head bolts ? Iv spoken to 2 mechanics and they have both said to change the lifters also and not to do the one at a time method of changing the bolts. Is there much risk of doing the bolts one at a time ? It'll certainly be cheaper.
I think I have some wear on my cam lobes but havnt removed the cams to check the lifters. 85000km. Do I need new cams also? I'm worried if I don't change the cams also the lobes will damage the new lifters
is it okay to just change the head bolts and leave the standard lifters

I’m in the same boat. I’m planning on doing my head bolts within a month. Going with the Weistec head studs and SLS black series buckets, cam holders and cam bolts. Since the cams are out, there’s really no additional labor pulling the buckets out with a magnet. The Indy shop that I’m taking it to actually sugestested I do the one bolt since I don’t have any coolant lost yet. I can understand why they would suggest not doing that cause they’re getting paid more. In the end, it’s what you’re comfortable paying for.

I would just replace the lifters. Everything is out. you are doing headbolts for peace of mind. Save on labor in the long run. My car would occasionally have a puff of white/blue smoke and they found my valve stem seals worn as well. I had 86k miles on my car. They replaced those as well. Just do everything so you don't have to worry about it down the road.

I think the only non-OEM parts people have been using are the ARP head studs. How much are you saving? The job is only like $3000

Did you end up using Elring and INA? I am torn myself about this. FCPEuro recommends Elring and thinks that Elring was Mercedes supplier direct from the factory on these. But I'd like to know if anyone had used them or not?
