Good point. After I presented the topic number and expressed concern about the sound coming from the exhaust, he researched it and agreed my vehicle fell within the period when the update was required.

Had the update today... noticeable difference

In my experience...
Car: 2016 C63s sedan, Australian delivered
Mode: S+
Hold in 1st and drive around, back off from about 3k-3.5k rpm and I noticed the car coasted along... a lot less engine braking. Felt different

Free-revving the car (like the posted videos like to show) definitely now has a few pop/crackle from the 4k rpm or higher range

driving in 2nd/3rd to 4k-5k rpm and lifting off leads to pop/crackle

No noticeable idle or driving noise increase at all. Idle at same rpm

Of note: The SA wasn't aware of the update, but I wouldn't expect anyone to be across every possible update. We discussed it and I gave the Xentry note from above.

Happy with the result, more driving to be done!

Maybe I'm reading too far into the wording, but the underlined part below might explain some of the differing experiences with the current update:

Cause: Current production AMG engines undergo constant development in regards to performance optimization. In the recent updates to engine and transmission in the C63 vehicles the objective was to optimize the vehicle drive off agility in S+ mode from stand still. These software updates unintentionally led to changes in the engine sound.
It sounds like it's not if a car had a build date prior to 12/2016 where there is an issue but that any car that had the "previous updates" unexpectedly had a decrease in their volume, and the current update fixes it back to where it would have been prior to that previous update. If you never had that previous update done and your car was built before that update existed, that would explain why some cars don't see that big of a difference or why certain cars wouldn't come up as needing it (ie. clueless dealers).

I guess I'm reading it like this. Say the prior update came out in Spring 2016 (I don't know the actual date, I'm just assuming a random date), the scenario would be as follows:

- Pre-Spring 2016 build date without any updates to the car since build --> Good exhaust sound (new update won't make much of a difference)
- Pre-Spring build date but had software updated prior to the current update --> Quieter exhaust sound, needs current update to reset sound
- Spring 2016 through 12/2016 build date --> Came from factory with quieter exhaust, needs update
- Post-12/2016 build date --> No need for update, has current software

I have no clue if this is correct or not, but reading the above quoted lines leads one to believe this is the case.

My dealer is continuing to be resistant about this update. I gave them the Xentry bulletin number and they thought I was asking about a remap, then I sent them the Xentry bulletin and they tried arguing with me that this wouldn't affect the engine sound in any way. The best I've got now is that the car will go in and they'll 'look into it', which usually means they'll try and fob me off with another excuse. I think I might try a different dealer!!!

Then your dealer can't read. Both of them *clearly* mention it's to address sound, "Engine Sound changes after software update." In fact, the V2 (2nd pic posted below) can't get any more clear...

I just went to my dealer about this, and he isn't sure if it applies to mine (build date of 12/5/16). But he said he has no problem trying

C63 non-S owner in the U.K. here.

My car is a July 2015 delivery so quite early. I had it in for its second service on Wed and they appear to have carried out the exhaust software update. I have the performance exhaust anyway but there was a noticeable difference in pops etc when in S+ after the service. I did mention the update to them a couple of months ago but they knew nothing of it at the time. They do look after me there though. The AMG tech is a very good guy so has always tried to make sure I'm happy. He's even called me before to ask if I've experienced this that or another issue when he's been at AMG workshops in Germany.

So, the update does appear to have a positive effect on early delivery UK non-S cars.

This dealer has been particularly difficult in the past to be honest. I called a different dealer who—although they wouldn't actually look up the bulletin—said they'd have no problem checking for the update.

I would go to the other dealership, get the update done (so you have proof it's available), and send the receipt to the GM at the other dealership to let him know that you'll be on the lookout of for the Customer Service Survey that MB sends out (usually a phone call) after every Service visit, and that his Service staff were very difficult and unhelpful. And as such, while you'd love to continue service at his dealership, you have no choice but to take your vehicle elsewhere to where they Service staff are receptive and helpful. That'll get his attention *real* quick. MB Corporate is VERY big on dealership rebates and other profit-generating programs for its dealer network based on its Customer Service survey results...

Yeah, that's a good idea, I probably will do. Although this new dealer wasn't exactly super excited about me knowing what a Xentry bulletin was, they were concerned about how dismissive the other dealer had been (as they are the same franchise).

Having said that, last time I visited this second dealer to view another car, I did the phone review and had a call back from the dealer about ten minutes later questioning me on it which didn't seem right!

Weird...I dunno why you guys are having such a hard time with your dealers. My dealer had trouble pulling up the Xentry Tip initially, so him and the service tech - in front of my plain view - went through the STAR menu, input W205, and searched for all the Xentry tips, until we found it (there were around 5-8 IIRC for the W205). All very openly and in a helpful manner. I'd assume they would wanna do it, cuz it's $$ in their pocket (they bill Mercedes for this tech time since the car's still under Factory Warranty...)

Just had my November 2016 build C63S Edition 1 Coupe engine gearbox and traction control & sound (I've been told) updated to latest software. Big thank you to my mate who is service manager at my local MB dealer. Can't wait to pick it up after work to see what the differences feel like and to see if sound is the same worse or better than before.

Canterbury MB and no paper work on information of Xentry bulletin number so no idea if its the same as America. The up date was done due to me complaining of slow gear selection from start ie from park to D or R it was taking a count of four before the gear would engage and jerking when changing gear in S+ when slowing down. Not sure what the traction up date was but I was getting wheel spin a very low speeds ie 5mph when pulling out of junction's while turning with small throttle input, so will have to see if that is better. The gear selection was much better and no jerking in S+ when changing down, sound was just as good as before as I would get the pops,crackles & burbles when changing down from 3-2 in sports + and when lifting off the gas.

Andyroo have you problems with gear changes in comfort or s+ if not they may not do updates you need to have a genuine problem which mine did have and could be reproduced ie the long time to select gear from park or neutral.

I'm having all the same problems, including loss of traction at very low speeds. My dealer said there was nothig wrong. I checked my tire pressure which was at the top end of the range (on the door, versus where it should be in the range listed on the fuel cap). I don't really know if the decrease in pressure has helped the traction, but it did help the ride.

Dealer is supposedly performing the updates for me, although they do not admit thhere's an issue... In fact, they said there really is no update that applies to my car and I should stay off the forums becuase there's a LOT of misleading information. LMAO!!!!

According to the bulletin, this particular update requires a complaint about the engine noise, so hopefully that will suffice! I've already tried the jerky slow speed get changes (which I do have), and the dealer said the software was up to date for that

Let us know how you get on. Mine is due in for a service in UK and could do with some UK bulletin number etc as they say they don't know of any engine noise update etc.
