Pops and crackles

2019 AMG C63 Sedan (Gone and wont be missed)
Took delivery, drove it a couple of weeks then sold it. The sound really is not as advertised vs the videos we all saw of the 2019 press cars on youtube. Sound is a big factor for me, so when I found myself driving my GLE63S more then my new C63s i knew it had to go. Looking for a mint ED1 now or a like new 18, or other options.
I’m a little curious too about you test driving the car first, did you?

The head of product planning for AMG compact cars, Bastian Bogenschutz, told the publication that “The regulations were getting pretty difficult for the sound to just come from the exhaust system, so we added the AMG pure performance sound, there we take the real sound from the exhaust system, the pulsation of the real sound and move it inside the car. It works together with the exhaust system.”

Finally drove mine in race mode this morning and I got some nice crackle and pops on down shifts and overruns pass 5k rpm. I am satisfied with the sound I just feel like you have to push it a bit more to get the desired effects compared to the pre facelift.

A friend of mine drove his like a little girl and would only try and step into WOT or aggressive driving once in a blue moon and it would not react the same as mine, which I drove like a made dog every day.
I remember on mine, when they had to remove the battery and the system was completely reset and had to relearn, it was same thing.. I went at it hard.

Mirrors my findings. The car is definitely getting more theatrical as time passes and it gets used in anger. I do miss the downshift bangs but slowly getting over it. The ASR module has freed up some extra volume lower down too so I can highly recommend those if you haven't already.

Assuming it pertains to the current C63 facelift models, does anyone know if by "we take the real sound from the exhaust system and move it inside the car" this is accomplished by using artificial sounds played through the stereo/audio system like BMW does with the M3/4/5, or by acoustic and mechanical means like Lexus, Audi, and some others do by "piping" actual intake/exhaust sound into the cabin using tubes and diaphragms?
TL;DR Version:
Fuses/sound modules in these cars to pipe artificial sound into cabin - C63 pre-facelift non PE is the only version of the car without.

That post seems to pertain mainly to C43s rather than C63s (unless this feature is common to both) and doesn't really answer my question since I don't know what "sound modules" are. Perhaps a better way to ask my question is: Are "enhanced" intake/exhaust sounds played through an amplifier and speakers (either the Burmester stereo or some other speakers hidden inside the car) or are the actual sounds the car makes mechanically "piped" into the cabin using tubes, resonators, etc. with no electrical amplification or speakers involved?

I have been in deep denial and even defending AMG in that they would never do that. Now I have a horrible feeling that I’m wrong! In my previous 2016 C63s opening the windows a crack would make the exhaust sound rush into the car. A significant difference between windows open and close. In my 2019 the sound does NOT change when I crack the rear windows. No change at all! This plus the fact that the exhaust sound is not really directional makes me really sad that it is probably true: we have fake sound.

I think the discussion and the findings in the C43 specific thread are the ones being referred here, although the thread is too long and I'm not able to find data/evidence for the C63 specific findings being shared.
Also, it doesn't seem to explain the observations w.r.t. exhaust sound being toned down starting with the facelift models, unless both pre-FL and FL had exhaust being piped in and with the FL they changed the exhaust note being piped in.
I'm not defending the C63 FL or the pre-Fl, but still interested to see the data which shows this difference.

I hate to be "that guy" that asks stuff that might be answered but this thread is long and all over the place. I have a 2017 that I just bought 3 weeks ago and wanted to give it some time to get an impression on the sound and I've come to the conclusion it pretty much has ZERO pops or crackles. On a higher rpm downshift in manual I get one bang-ish sound but never any crackles on downshifts, decel, revving, etc (I'll even attach a video below). The car was low enough mileage where it hadn't even been into a dealership yet for maintenance prior to me purchasing it (which I did first day of ownership), so I assume he had never done any updates. Now, does this talked about update add some pops and crackles or take it away? My friend that is a local MB tech said they've been doing updates to cars that have been making them more quiet and it's actually been pissing off owners, so they've been warning them first that there is no going back. That information seems to differ what I read on here. I have one update/recall that is ecu related that I opted out of during my first service, just wondering if I should have done it or keep avoiding it. It was listed as "1801p54a12 (sab) - perform scn coding in engine control" when I denied it.
