The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I pick mine up next week on the 26th - I've been following this thread since a month when I made the decision to get one.
When I test drove a demo 2019, it was popping and crackling like crazy. It only had 500kms on it. I'll be extremely disappointed if its not up to my expectations.
Also, where are you both based in oz?

I'm located in Canberra.

My brother-in-law has 2016/2017 model C63s sedan, compared to that the 2019 coupe sounded louder in Sports+/Race Mode so I don't know what the heck is going on.
I am located in Sydney.

Here is what I got from Mercedes Benz Customer Service Canada:
In regards to other AMG models (AMG GT, AMG GT4 door, E53, and even S63 and G63) there are numersous factors the exhaust system would be different, such as, the size of the exhaust system including the tail pipes & mufflers and the vehicle being tuned differently for each model. While we are not in the position to comment on any forums based on each individual customer complaints, our focus is directed towards the concern you have addressed with Mercedes-Benz Canada. We have confirmed with Daimler that the Model Year (MY) 2019 C63S received the particle filter, named OPF (OTTO particle filter) and definition of this is that the Gasoline particulate filters (GPF) are an emission aftertreatment technology based on diesel particulate filters (DPF), developed to control particulate emissions from gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines. The technology is also referred to as petrol particulate filter (PPF) and, in some German literature, as Otto particle filter (Ottopartikelfilter in German), abbreviated OPF. As such the reason for the difference in sound.
Since your concern has been addressed within the MB dealer network and deemed to have no faults and is operating as design, we must advise again, that we will not perform any adjustments or modifications beyond the vehicle specifications.
If the sound perfomance of the exhaust system for this vehicle was a major factor prior to completing the agreement to purchase the vehicle, this should have been discussed directly with your sales consultant or a test drive be performed to insure specific requirements were met.

I must say this facelift is no where near as lively
as my 2017.
Just half hearted pops on downshifts.
no rifle shot cracks as with pre facelift.
Revving hard did nothing.
We were all looking forward to the drama
our pre facelift provided in abundance.
Facelift puts power down very well and makes the driving experience very different from the lively nature of the pre facelift.
Letter to AMG will follow shortly.

Very few pops and crackles. My 2016 340i with MPPSK, exhaust and more power in Sport it pops and bangs like crazy.
You can compare
Nevertheless i absolute love the V8 sound. Is awesome. Even without reving above 4500rpm.

pops and crackles are the result of valve timing and fueling.
I would have thought AMG would respect their customers intelligence a little more than that.
at least a little transparency of what the real reason is, be it noise laws, fuel economy, etc... but not a trivial line of BS.
