2004 cl600 tire advice

i'm running stock 245 40 18 on the front and 265 40 18 on the rears on my 2004 cl600. is there any advantage, or disadvantage running 235 40 18's on the front with the existing 265-40 18's on the rear? it's a lot easier to find the 235 40 18 and i believe both porsche and bmw run that set up.

stock tire size is 245 45 18 front and 265 40 18 rear

235 40 18 will be way out of measure. Might run into ESP issues.

You could maybe get away with it if you lower rear wheel pressure and raise front.

thanks guys and happy new year. i guess i'll stick with the stock tires. one more question what if i want to go bigger than stock say like 255 40 18 and 275 35 18, etc. how will that effect the car good and bad, also going from 18" to 19" rims and tires?

W220 tyres are generally tricky - the profile is typically 5 percent higher than the width/diameter combos usually found on other, smaller cars.

I really wouldn't go to 235/40/18 at the front.

Maybe go 245/40/19 or 255/45/18 or 255/40/19.

Maybe 275/40/18 or 275/35/19 at the rear, but not 35 over 18's.

Nick

nick, thanks. it appears that wider and larger diameter is okay. one last question. i see a lot of people using 245 40 18 front with 265 35 18 in the rear when they recommend 265 40 18 in the rear for a 2004 cl600. any reason to use the 35's?

thanks, there are a lot more choices in the 265 35 18's. how will going from the recommended 265 40 18's to the 265 35 18's effect the car and suspension and speedometer?

My recommended rear size is 275 40 18 as I have the amg sport package . You can safely run all these sizes . Ride will be harsher with the thinner sidewall of the 35 series tire and your odometer will be a bit fast

They'll be fine .

40 gives you a little more comfort and sidewall height/protection
