Getting V12TT into the 10s in the quarter mile?

I have read and seen many CL65s going into the high tens with some mods. I'm no stranger to the track since I have been drag racing cars at tracks for the past 10 years. I have to say I'm a stranger to my new car which is not even here yet . I bought a CL600 V12TT it has a few mods already including Speedriven ECU and TCU tune. From what I have found out online and from talking to 65 owners, the CL600 obviously is not a 65 and has a few differences which make the car slower than a 65. Considering I can get the traction down and get the right tire setup along with the right 60ft which I think in these cars being in 1.6x is very good what else would I need to get the car into the 10s? some weight reduction and what other mods? I know cooling is a huge issue this is why I will be contacting SPeedriven to see how much I can get the top mount coolers for.

Any help would be great. I would want to see what the car can do this year vs next year when I have all the mods I want done to the car.

Thanks

KAMIL

Hmm easiest route to get the heavy CL600 in 10's... Sell the 600 & buy a CL65 w/Speedriven ECU/TCU/Slicks on 17"s no other mods needed if you can drive it like Zorro = 10.9x

I would venture to guess downpipes would free up good power in the 600s.

any vendors on here make down pipes for the cl600? I will call Speedriven tomorrow and see what they say. They are only 15min down the road from me and I only read good things bout them when it comes to the V12TT

keep 2100 dollars aside for coil packs. they will eventually go bad. how many miles do you have on your car?
downpipes will help, preload the wastegate arm to 7mm and this will help hold boost.

Coilpacks have just been done not too long ago. I think what I will do is take the car to the track just with the ECU/TCU tune put the best tire I can on it and see how it does with some minor weight reduction. I will go after cooling and downpipes as my next mods since I know these two things are very important in improvement of how the car runs.

Thanks

http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...lip-13880.html

It has already been done by an mbworld member (DrivenAgain). His formula was a custom exhaust, rear I/C reservoir, drag radials on lighweight 18" rim and an ECU/TCU tune. It also helps to have a track (MIR) with great track prep and some nice cool air. The great thing about the CL600 is the lighter weight. I think he weighed his CL600 at the track and it was around 4,250lbs. My CL65 was around 4,500lbs after taking out the spare/tools...etc.

Hi Kamil!

Congrats on the purchase! Great to hear it already has a tune Did you buy the car locally?

To make the car runs tens repeatedly, the formula has been ECU/TCU/Intercoolers/Intake/Tire/Rear Tank/Good driver

Come stop by anytime! We have lots of projects going on in the shop!

Thanks
Aleks

I bought the car out of California from Karl who hangs out on the forum here. He had only good things to say about you guys. I want to continue modding the car with you as well. In the process of buying a new home with my future wife so trying to make things easy on the pocket and of course drama free with the lady.

Good Driver (check)
Speedriven ECU Tune (check)
Speedriven TCU Tune (check)
Intake (will K&N work?)
Rear Tank with Intercoolers (will work with you guys on a deal )

I will stop by once my car comes in which is this Sat. sometime next week I'm thinking. What do you guys recommend as far as tire? I have a good deal on CLK320 16" wheels but they will not clear the brakes correct? I have the AMG brake upgrade on the car.

Thanks

I'm guessing not a lot of people run these cars and the ones that do I can find on the forum. Most of the people driving a Mercedes CL600 are not your everyday drag fans and not people that want the car for 1/4 mile. They look for comfort and of course the V12TT never hurts to have when you got the coin. I guess I will be the one to try to build the fastest CL600 since the CL65 is already spoken for by RENNTECH. This most likely will involve $$$$$ Thousands but it pays off to accomplish something great in a great car.

Check out this link...I don't want to crush your goals, but this guy's power will be tough to beat if you are on a budget unless you are doing all the work like he did(and you'll still have some big money tied up). Check out some of his posts, he's removed the ABC for weight and space to allow for a completely new setup. Otherwise, save for the cost of another cl600 and get the Speedriven upgraded turbo setup. LOL.. Its very easy to get some decent power out of these cars, but the price per hp goes up big time the higher you go.

very cheap to hit 10's
I ran a 10.82@128 mph with just a Speed Driven ECU TCU- HE in the front - new pump-and straight exhaust with zero cats and only straight thru mufflers...

only ran the car 4 times and the best was the 10.82

it was 74 degrees and i pulled a 1.76 60 ft.

Toyo tires no drags... i will not put a drag tire on my car

my car has over 100k miles with a rebuilt tranny and nothing else... IN the 35k miles i have had my car i have had zero repair done except for the tranny- which i made a decision to do so because it was only $2300 and I WANTED to run the best it could for a long time..
other then that not a dime on anything more then mods and oil changes and brakes and thats it folks... you can call my mechanic who is well known on here

my car is exceptionally fast though-- even compared to a local guy with a Speed Driven 800hp kit -- my car is faster - No BS

total investment $2000

.

One question.... if I do that do I need a new ECU tune??
More boost at the rpm range need also more right quantity of fuel....
Maybe the ECU recognize the boost and give right portion of fuel so the pistons don't melt.
