The only factory part that will remain is the steering wheel controls. The crescendo amp will make the power for the components and amp, although my son is trying to convince me to put in his Leviathon. It's tempting! Still disassembling......
After removing the insulation from behind the rear seat, I'll be Ready to pull the rear package shelf. Anyone done that before? Not sure how to remove the headrests and rear window shade.
The shade comes out from the bottom...pretty straight forward there. The headrests, on the other hand, can be a pain. There are release tangs located on the mounts that have to be pressed either up or down (sorry, I can't remember exactly which way) to release the headrests. I was able to get them with a small screw driver or maybe you can use a pick.
Ok, so there is clearly a very hot spot in hell for the engineer who designed the release for the headrests!
I could only release the clip with each headrest part way up. Took about a half dozen tries on each headrest before I could get them both released at the same time. I'd get one, lift up the headrest and the other would be locked. Turn on the car to lower the headrests, unlock the second, lift it up, and the first would be locked again! Frustrating to say the least! Must be the same guy who designed the rear cooler release. That seems like a piece of cake after dealing with the headrests now, lol.
matt i wish you luck and im looking fwd to your completion. That said i need a favor, can you snap a pick of the jack and and how it sits? i cant get mine to sit and have the carpet lay flat. Thanks and much appreciated
Head unit is in & playing, but I still need to hook up the reverse sensing wire, the park brake sensing wire, mount the microphone, and figure out where to hook up the steering wheel control sensing wire from the AWSC-1. The speaker wires are run to the kick panels, but not in the doors, I still need to mount the crossovers, door speakers, amplifier, and sub. Was hoping this was going to be a weekend project, but.....no. I need to get a custom spacer made for the sub, and my Cescendo amp did not come with a bass controll knob. The guy building the roll cage for my Futura has a waterjet that can cut one out aluminum or ABS. Probably going with ABS, but polished aluminum is tempting.
The parking brake sensing wire just needs to be grounded. The AWSC needs to be wired into the can bus. I believe the pink wire is can high and the blue/pink wire is can low. There is a can bus terminal block below the steering column. Just remove the plastic access panel in the upper part of the foot well to find it.
No time to get to the garage since Sunday, but I have a plastics place making a custom spacer ring to mount the sub under the rear deck. With 34mm of excursion each way, I want to make sure the cone doesn't hit the deck or sunshade. A buddy with a water jet is making a 1/4" steel ring I'll put above the package shelf, drop screws down through it, the shelf, spacer & sub. I plan to tac weld the screws to the plate so I can remove, or tighten the sub without taking anything else (the rear shelf) apart. That's an easy way to take 34#'s of the weight I'm adding back out on track days.
