If I remember correctly I read a similar post about the same issue a while back. Do a w208 specific search and you should find the past thread...

when the EC button is lit, it means that there is NOT enough FREON or a problem with the A/C compressor.

best have it leak-tested, but im sure it might be the dryer or some check valves.

Your A/C will not work until its looked at.

Good Luck

I had my EC button lit on whenever I start my car, turn out R134 gas is low, cost me $275.00 to recharge , reset the A/C computer @ the dealer (regular automobile A/C shop does not know how to reset the computer, after recharge the gas). Now it's COLD (before it''s just the FAN).

hey , got my AC recharged.. It took about a pound an a half. It blows ice cold...but after driving it and then turning the car offthe EC button is coming back on .While driving it I am able to turn off everything completley and turn the EC off and on . I held down the rest button and turn the ignition on and off which seems to turn off the EC button but it comes back on . Is there another way to reset the climate control?Does it take running the AC a few times for the computer to reset inside. My mechanic said there were no leaks

The only way to get the EC button reset is to take it to the dealership to get it reset. A normal reset will not work unless you have a STAR computer system (normally over 1000 bucks). The dealership will charge you about 90 bucks just for a reset on the EC button alone.

I used this method for 6 months till I decided I was tired of doing the key on, key off, key on method and finally got the Climate Control reset. Even with a full recharge the compressor would not kick on with the EC button light lit up. You can do the work around for a while but I was worried about killing the ignition after doing it for so long and 100 bucks for a reset was WAY cheaper than having to redo the ignition system.
