1999 CLK 320
Smile Hi all New 1999 CLK320 owner

Hi all. I will be picking up my very first MB today! I purchased a 1999 clk320 with 57000 mile on it for cheap. It looks and drives perfect.

I've been reading this forum for a few days now and am really impressed with how kind and knowledgeable the members are. The car is really clean inside and out. I'm planning on doing some service on it this weekend. I won’t be able to sleep right until I’ve changed ALL the fluids. This is where i need your expertise. I tried searching the web and this site (I always search first) and I'm unsure as t what I have found. So here goes...

1: engine oil. I believe that it requires 8.5 qtrs. of Mobil 1 0w-40
I read Greg210's excellent DIY article on changing it but would love to know the size of the oil filter cap wrench that he used so I can buy one.

2: Transmission fluid change. I'm going to have my mechanic do the change but I want to provide the best fluid and how much for the job. Also what else has to be changed such as gaskets and the like so that I can make sure that all is right.

3: power steering fluid change. Again what do you all use and how much?

4: coolant system. Prestone 50/50 or something else?

Sorry if this topic has been covered but I just couldn't find it. Of course the car did not come with the manual and I plan on ordering one a.s.a.p. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Slobodan

Hey Slobodan!

I just picked up my 99 about a month ago and did the same. A few notes re your question about the tranny

See this thread about the parts required for the tran oil change. Change also the mentioned adapter plug and O-ring as it likely leaks.

https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...ush-parts.html

Maybe look into replacing: Draglink assembly and Steering damper, should tighten up your steering (along with tightening up the Gearbox bolts in the driver's side front-wheel well).

https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...link-help.html

And some other regular parts usually replaced under regular maintenance are: the 12 spark plugs (you'll prob want to order the special wrench to make the job much easier), engine air filter, cabin air filter and fuel filter.

PM me if you want a list of all the parts I ordered when I did all the work and where I sourced them from.

Cheers and congrats!

For number 2, my local MB dealer's current price is $250. Fluid, filter, gaskets, labor, everything.

For number 4, I would NOT use Prestone. Zerex G-05 is an approved fluid.

01 clk 430 convertible. black on black
Slobodan, I advice you find a non dealership mechanic who specializes in mercedes and have the tools to do your 1st A or B service and inspect your car. then you can take it from there. I even took the hard route and took my car to the dealer when I 1st purchased it. remember you are not driving a honda anymore. car looks mint. hope you take this advice

Thanks all!!. I still have not taken possession of the car yet as I'm making them fix a squeak in the passenger side seat. I should get it today. Does the 430 have the same transmission as the 320 and does this beast (the 320) really use 8.5 quarts of oil? Also what filter brand do you guys like for this? A couple more pics...

Looks miinty!

Note that squeaking from both the front seats get worse when the seats are set lower because they rub more on the plastic sheathing on the outsides of the seat.... either file away some of the plastic sheathing or put something in between the seat and sheathing to block them from making contact.

No and yes. And I use Wicks filters via Amsoil distributor.

Looks nice... Good luck chasing down all the squeaks, and rattles though, this is the worst car I've owned for that stuff...

Well I finally got the car and its freaking wonderful!! However I have a problem with the intermittent wiper function. When it turns the wiper on to position 1 and postion2 the speed remains the same like it's on position 2. The dealer replaces the switch but that did not correct the problem. After monkeying around with it and look in here I unplugged the thing on the windshield behind the mirror and know when it turn it on to position 1 i have intermittent wiping and in position 2 and 3 it works like you would expect. I can live with this but i would like to fix it as well. Question, what is that part called and or part # and do I have to remove the windshield to fix it or dose it just stick on? Thanks as always!!
