sunroof/visor screwed

i'm ****ed. my damn sunroof visor sunshade thing is dumb. it came off the track to slide back and forth about 6 months ago and the dealer wanted 1,200 to repair it. so like 5 days ago i opened the sunroof and the damn sunshade screwed it's self and went partially sideways and i stopped the sunroof, when i went to close the sunroof, it sounded like it was tearing the visor. now the piece of crap has all the fabric torn of the last 10 inches on the visor.

does anyone have info on headliner removal?

An old thread but my sunroof is now acting up, can't even open it all the way. It sounds like something went out of track. Did you ever get this fixed?

I'm stuck as well.. Reseted by holding down switch in #3 position and the crank wont crank even when pushing up to release electric motor. Thinking I need to do a disassemble of sorts to the headliner, is there a how-to guide floating around?

Oh, I also clicked these inward, https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...f-problem.html no help. Unit was opening a couple inches each press but now it simply wont close more than a couple inches.

I was able to muscle the sunroof closed while someone else rocked the switch back and forth. Turns out the rubber gasket thingy that covers the slider mechanism came loose on one end and was jamming the unit.

I read several threads here today concerning this, thanks to everyone here for their contributions. I will be back :-)

I figure it's better to revive an old thread to keep posting random questions in my "got a CLK550" thread. I just opened the sunroof for the first time and didn't notice beforehand that the sunshade was off its tracks, which caused the opening roof to bind up, somewhat mangling rubber part with the accordion-pleating on the right side (is that the "roof rail," 10 below?)

I was able to get the mangled part back in place (just a tear in the pleated rubber part that I may or may not try to tape) and the sunshade fits into its track like a home window screen, spring tabs on each side. One side has the tab covered with a little rubber/plastic guide, and the other doesn't, so I assume that one fell off. Seems to work okay now, other than dragging the sunshade closed while closing, though I can hold it open if I want. Oddly enough, I don't seem to be able to "tunnel mode" my windows closed, even after holding all buttons up and then down for 10-20 seconds. Any thoughts or tips?

So is the sunroof now working in auto-close mode with the switch? If not, it won't work in tunnel mode. The proper way to reset the sunroof auto-close feature is to slide it open halfway, then press and hold the button in the close position (2nd click) until it closes, then hold it an extra two seconds.

Just an FYI, RECIRC mode must be off when you press and hold the button to enter tunnel mode.

and, IIRC, A/C on. I used it a lot on my 350, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right. I use it when entering tunnels and highways or when I'm parked and locking it up. With windows down, I hold down RECIRC and they all go up. If the roof is closed at the time, shouldn't this work even if the roof isn't operating properly? Also, I think I read somewhere that holding in the charcoal filter button does the same thing.....true?

so my sunroof still won't auto-close and the sunshade makes an annoying rattling noise. I'm hoping both issues are related to the missing part of the "slider," #9 below:

Any idea how I get at that? I'm hoping I don't have to drop the headliner as waveterrorist did in THIS THREAD.

I also need to install the "bellows" that I was lucky enough to buy from waveterrorist to replace the one that tore (I never was able to even identify the part, never mind buy it):

If all you need to do is replace the side bellows and the shade slide, that can all be done without dropping the headliner. The bellow just snap out with the roof tilted up. To remove the shade, pop the plastic trim off the leading edge of the glass so the shade can slide closed, past the opened glass. Now you can remove the shade from the top.

Done; thanks. That plastic trim piece went back on a lot easier than it pulled off! I was afraid to break it but it snaps hard. I got the bellow on and the slider on the one side, but it still won't express-close....maybe the little rubber part of the slider that was missing (or something else) is floating around back there?
(slider that I removed with missing rubber piece below)

You might try pulling the fuse for the sunroof control (#25, I think it is) and that might erase an erroneous synchronization. I have seen window controllers get synchronized "backward", where they see fully open as fully closed.

EDIT: FYI, don't switch on the ignition with this fuse removed because it might control an SRS unit and it could throw an error that requires SDS to reset.

So I should pull the fuse with the roof closed, and the key off, wait a few minutes, then put 'em back in? I'll try that.

Yes, we just need the controller to "lose" its memory of the closed position synchronization. Like I said, I think it's fuse 25, but I'd have to research to make sure the sunroof controller is on the circuit. #25 says it's for the overhead control panel.

what with the tires, the vacation and being buried with work since returning from vacation, I'm just getting around to this. Fuse list said #9 was for sunroof so I pulled that for a few minutes and no change: roof will express open but not express close and tunnel mode doesn't work (nor does "all open/all close" with the brand new key, BTW). I'll try #25 tomorrow.
