Dyno Tuning

Tomorrow I am taking my car in to be Dyno'd to get some sorta baseline on what the car is doing now, its pretty much stock. I made a deal with the shop so I could bring the car in 3 different times after each mod gets installed. $250.00 or free if i get the mods done there. 3 runs each time.

My plans are adding a AMS pulley I have and then getting a a dyno tune or a Off the shelve ECU tune. One of my questions is what the big difference from the off the shelve tuning or having them do it there on the spot ?

Also is there anything I should do to get the car prepared for this and is there anything I should be telling him I want.

Like I said before I do not know a whole lot about cars, but slowly learning haha so any help would be great appreciated even if Don't do it

Thanks

I am sorry I can't be of any assistance. Just wanted to say I am looking foreword to your results. I think this spring I may do a few performance mods. I would really like to get those HP and TQ over 400.

Thanks

1) Sometime "off the shelve tune" does not work on car with minor mods. I only have the E55 kompressor airbox and K&N filter and it showed no gain on the "off the shelve tune". I gains a little with custom tuned.

2) Learn how to put your car in the "dyno mode"

Just got back from the run. I need to post the graph when I get home we don"t have a color scanner here at work but they let me do a 1/4 mile run and I can post that.

I sure learned allot about this Dyo stuff today. Funny thing it was a BMW shop and there where 6 hovering over the car.

Will get the other uploaded later.

So what are the results? That dyno 1/4 isn't a real time number.

Wow........that's about 100 flywheel hp lost on a Mustang Dyno but I'm not surprised. The A/F ratio # is not right. Post up the real chart.

Edited above post. I think the guy may have had trouble I had the Car in dyno mode but he complained about something with shifting I did not understand. Also posted a AVI link. I did enjoy the sound of the new Exhaust though.

Based on the chart, it look like the operator does not know how to keep the car in 1 gear for a full pull. I believe 1:1 ratio on the 5-speed automatic is 3th gear and the new 7-speed 1:1 ratio is 4th gear (not to sure on the 7-sp).

With that said is that what the Dyno mode is suppose to do ? I had it turned on at the screen it was at ? He did say that it kept switching gears.

This is where we had it set http://www.snccollections.com/100_3837.avi

No.......dyno modes is to prevent the ECU kick in ESP/BAS/ABS (due to the front wheel not turning) that applied the brake to prevent lost control of the car in the real world situation. When the car is on the dyno, dyno mode is pretty much turn off all the safety features I mentioned above.

Louie, I'm getting late here but you definitely want to get a custom tune if the option is avaiable to you and it is. I put up a dyno thread listing the gains from mods and how well a proper custom tune tied them all up together. Great results for my archaic M113.

Lower the load on the dyno so your gearbox won't automatically downshift.

This is lesson learned. "Of the shelf" ECU tunes don't alway work. I had experienced 1st hand on my car with the same result, LOST HP. Lucky for me, they did a custom tuned while the car were on the Dyno.

Louie, crap luck mate but at least you know. Unfortunately a lot of guys with tunes are in the same boat as you but don't know it, they believe they have more power because the throttle %/sensitivity has been increased.

Go custom or go home
