CLK 500
Just bought a CLK 500. Have some questions.

I just bought a CLK 500. 2004. It’s a project. Runs amazing however. Here’s what I have.
SRS light is on. Previous owner said he was vacuuming under the seats and then when he stared. The light came on. Loose plug?
steering wheel will telescope. But not move up and down. Any ideas?
it’s missing the sunroof sunshade cover. It’s a mystery to me too. Where can I get. Anyone know part numbers?
it has some MB brand aftermarket wheels. 17s. They are black and violently ugly. I actually feel bad for the car. The offset is way off. They seem tucked in in the back. It’s sad. I know there’s a sticky thread for that. So I will go there. But I want to put back to factory wheels. AMG.
the control arm bushing are shot. Ordered all new stuff. As well and brake pads and rotors. I want to take this back to factory original. Plus some. But a solid driver. As much as the wood is nice. Classy. I’d like to change that. Bit not cheezy vinyl rap them. Like white replacement with something different. There is cracks and sun fading. But if it ever needs to go back to stock form. And it can be restored I will do that. But something different. For now. Did I mention the wheels are violently wrong for the car? It’s my first Mercedes. I love this thing. I have a Jeep that is built. I have built and sold 3 land rovers. I am no stranger to wrenching. Thanks for any tips or advise.

Look at some Mandrus wheels for it. They are solid, look great, and not too bad on the pocketbook.

They are amazing cars for the price. We have a 550 that is a blast to drive. The body lines are so classic that it looks like a much newer car.

The tilt wheel issue is likely a broken dog bone.

$5 part, lots of bother but there is a quicker version of repair

You can look up parts on EBAY. I've found this the easiest first try. Try CLK W209 SUNROOF SHADE

You can also try this website: https://mbparts.mbusa.com/
I use that often to find a part and then order somewhere else.

You can also go to the dealer and ask for the part #. You don't have to buy it there.

You gonna share the quicker version of repair with the class or keep it a secret!? I don't have that issue (yet), but it's nice to know a fix if it arises!

Welcome to team "refurbishing an 18yr old Mercedes coupe"! Check out my thread Project CLK320 as I've done quite a few deferred maintenance including the full suspension. My favorite upgrade so far with the Bi-Xenon lights is to retrofit with a current technology Morimoto Evo8 HID. They're $135 for the pair of low beams and the useable light output is stunning.

You will need to purchase a real, Mercedes specific code reader to properly understand the systems. I have the iCarsoft MBII and they're about $120.

Definitely look into doing the transmission filter service (requires dropping the transmission pan), but it makes the shifting so much smoother. It's not difficult, just a little more time consuming than an oil change.

Read the owners manual diligently when it comes to disconnecting or disconnecting the battery. You can really fry one or all of the fuseboxes (called SAM).

As far as the SRS, I generally assume the PO lied about condition of the car and what happened or how easy things are to fix. You will need a code reader to figure out your airbag issue.

I had some Mandrus on my CLK320 when I bought it. HORRIBLY ugly. Had them on FB marketplace for months and can't give them away.
