The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Tuesday I was sitting at a light and happened to look to my left and saw a Chrysler 300 with Mercedes AMG wheels complete with MB center caps. I thought "what the hell" to myself and smiled. Looking closer, there was a MB star directly under the "hemi" shield on the front quarter panel along with those stick-on fake air vents. When his lane passed, the back of the 300 said "S550 AMG".
Hah! what a fool

I remember some time ago, a member here had posted a link from the Mercedes Benz AG site which had a website banner of a C320 with an AMG badge in their AMG section.
I have seen MB cars ordered with a complete AMG accessorization without any engine modifications. I am talking about optical package, brakes, suspension, exhaust and even interior clusters.
These cars were offloaded from the port with AMG badges on them!
Very strange indeed. I think this arguement has gone on for so long and its all heresay... someone from Mercedes Benz needs to come on this site and say something about this and put all these speculaltions to rest.
Unfortunately, you can't stop people adding items to their cars.
But as mentioned above, those who know their Merc's, will know how to identify the real thing.
I have to say, whenever I see a non-AMG which has been marked to look like an AMG, it kinda niggles at me.
But not much.
I usually look forward to cruising passed them because you know they're gonna be having a good ol' look at your AMG.

I guess it is about the badge to a certain extent.
I mean, you see new Mercs all the time with AMG bodykits & AMG wheels on. They look good, and you'll probably look at them with appreciation.
These such Mercs do not come with AMG badges, unless they have been requested. They look good and are respected.
But I think in this day and age, people would be silly to add AMG badges to a non-AMG car. They just make themselves look silly.
But in a way, it's kinda Mercedes fault too.
As I'm aware, with BMW, if you want to buy "M" badges, you have to provide the VIN number & ID to proove that you actually own an M Series car before they will sell them to you.
I think that is a good policy to have.
Take note Mercedes. But I guess it's alittle too late for that.
