AMG posers

Funny that I would find this thread. i've seen an increase in fake AMG's lately. But as my brother and I always say... the only people who even know what AMG means are the people who can tell it's a fake. Sooooooooo

My son spins it the other way round. He says that I am too vain because I would be too self conscious to use the AMG badge and worry too much about what others think of me.
Incidently, he wanted to order the whole slew of Black Series/6.3 badges for his CLK320 but fortunately he isn't old enough to have a credit card to use to pay for Ebay purchases and does not know my PayPal account password. The angst of a high school teen trying to compete against "M3s," "RS4s," "GTRs," "Shelby Corbras" and who knows what else is in the high school parking lot

E350 AMG
Ran into this getting off the freeway today - owner then got gas at same costco, asked her how she liked her AMG car, and she said it was fantastic. Did not bother telling her about what AMG meant, she seemed like a nice older lady

Probably a case where the dealer put the badge on it and the owner never knew the difference. I guess not every owner really knows or even cares about their car.

i just got my AMG badge in the mail. but i swapped my cl500 engine out for the 55 AMG engine and transmission. the car came stock with AMG bodykit so anybody who wants to tell me an AMG engine/tranny/body kit still isn't an AMG can suck on my nuts!!

i have a thread documenting my engine swap if you cared to do some searching. all w215's come with an amg body, idk how else to dispute that one....
edit: oh wait, i just realized you're actually asking to suck on my nuts instead of validate my amg swap....awkward.....

I was driving down Wilshire on Friday and this guy drove past me in a R230 SL500 with SLS and AMG BLACK SERIES badges on the rear and had chrome trim on his fenders with chrome wheels...

Still not an AMG I agree. Yet it still does amaze me that these people hold down jobs, buy health insurance, etc xD. False badging seems like one of those stupid adolescent decisions I make that I later end up regretting, realizing how dumb I am, the growing up and undoing my mistake. Who in their right mind as a grown adult would do something like that to an SL500???

The only reason i can think of to do it is insecurity but if i were that insecure i would be even more worried about people knowing that i re-badged my car
If you have a 500/550 be happy with it, there's no need to re-badge it, no one that matters will think you make more money or are a cooler person
Also - If a real AMG pulls up next to you and wants a go of it there will be a public douchefying of biblical proportions...

Swapping the engine and trany does not an AMG make... and sounds like a tremendous waste of time and money as well
Your car is still a 500.
Your car is still a 500.
perhaps what you're really referring to is the little plastic AMG logos that always end up broken on the seats?!?!???! I am sorry, I'll stick with my seats that don't break....or the little logo on the tach? lol i upgraded to AMG for the power and quickness, not silly logos and plastic emblems that fall off due to bad design.....reminds me of the abc system....i just want the amg boot badge because im proud of my drivetrain, just like anybody else who wears the amg badge. i am not somebody wearing an amg badge with a stock displacement powered drivetrain. the differences between the cl500 and cl55 are very minimal and tedious at best
so say what you will, in my eyes i saved myself 4k by doing an engine/tranny swap instead of just buying the cl55 amg. which by the way isn't insured by as many insurance companies since it's branded amg(common reason for engine swap in american cars)....ALTHOUGH this wasn't even my plan to begin with -
somebody put bleach and dirt in my gastank so my old m113 cl500 engine developed a loud "lifter noise" that was quite unpleasant for a mercedes, so instead of replacing the valvetrain i decided to go AMG since it's the same car otherwise...
edit:not only did i save myself money buying the cl500, and by not fixing the valvetrain (very tedious work) but i got to upgrade to amg in the process. so like i said, suck on my nuts son!!

i only had to search for a few minutes to find youve actually had problems with one of two shiny little plastic emblems that i was talking about that seperate my car from yours. now i clearly understand why you take such pride in these little pieces of plastic
this all makes much more sense now. i guess in your standards my car is not amg, but hey whatever floats your shiny little plastic boat, man!

what does having a job and buying health insurance have anything to do with what we're talking about? your bandwagon peanut gallery opinion is not only useless, it's downright mind numbing. please refrain from any further nonsensical thought vomiting
and who here is talking about a sl500....? you guys have fun with your shiny little plastic logos.
yes, i enjoy working on my car and rebuilding my car, having the knowledge and resources at age 21 is a nice thing to take advantage of. especially when you have time to kill. i'm done with this thread....

Pehehe, i knew a guy who pulled an Ari Gold - bought his wife a SL550 and re-badged it so she thought it was a 600, of course she found out when she took it into the dealer for service herself and almost ended their marriage
