Exclamation Ported Intake Pics - Does this look right??

So...my hands are very sore right now. Removing the intake manifold can be a bear if it's your first time!

I'm looking inside my ported/polished manifold from TVT Design and it's WAY different. Can any of you tell me if there is a piece missing or if it's just REALLY ported? It almost looks like part of the manifold is missing. Attached is a pic of my old inside and 2 pics of the ported one inside.

Do you think having this piece missing would be a performance improvement? I'm a little concerned...

Thanks!

Reading TVT's thread on his p/p intakes he mentions removing a section of the runner. So yes that is intentional in the design.

If at all possible get a dyno before and after. This has not be performed yet.... and is keeping people on the fence about this mod. Just no hard data yet.

I was just going to say that. I recall asking the exact same question as the OP in that thread.

He had some for sale, so call them up. Definitely pay someone to do this. It's a painful job.

So I finished! But the car is running like crap. It shakes hard and won't stay cranked. I feel like I may have screwed something up. I disconnected the air pump on the front (California requirement), but I'm not sure that's the problem.

Thoughts?

Could it be that I'm almost out of gas? Since I had to purge what was in the fuel rail

Look at what you took apart:
1. Coil Packs,
2. Ig wires,
3. Intake mani,
4. Mass Air Meter,

Anyone of these could create that issue.

Go back over everything you did visually, checking for lose or dissconnected connections...... I suspect a coil pack or two are not connected tight, or mass air meter is not connected right, or possibly the intake mani gasket is pinched or is leaking somewhere..... there can't be any leaks in that intake manifold, or you'll get problems.

And last but not least.. if it's out of gas......

If you can't get it to run right, try reinstalling the old intake manifold. Yes, it's a hassle, but the new one may be junk and this is the only way I know of to eliminate it as a suspect.

sounds like vacuum leak ... usually when it cranks then dies you have a vacuum leak. Since you just installed an intake manifold, most certainly that's where your issue will be. Go over all the hoses & connections and make sure you didn't miss anything.

before/after dyno would have been great but something tells me it will never come to fruition.

Yeah... perhaps the ported intake has some "issues"..... ported through the shell? Cracks? time to pull apart and inspect.

It sounds like a pain, but installing the original manifold may be the only way. Props for taking aparts the intake maniforld yourself.

Car's running now with factory manifold reinstalled. After many trial and error configurations and reinstalls of the "ported/polished" POS, I found that there is a definite leak in the silicone reseal.

The choice that TVTdesign made to remove the variable intake runners was a very poor decision in my opinion. Definitely a half brain solution to intake improvements.

Glad the car's running with no major damage....only a few months of downtime and ~$1000 wasted. Don't buy parts from vendors with little/no history!

It's too bad the p/p intake didn't work out..... it seems AMG did a great job with the factory stuff.. not much to be had by p/p heads/intake....... at least not as much as a ford 5.0... the ford 5.0 heads/intake leave alot to be desired

Not touching the intake manifold again.

Anyone want to buy and reseal the other one? Be my guest!

I haven't installed the headers....the lowest quote I've heard is $1k and it isn't even CLOSE to worth it. I may do it myself or forget it based on my last low cost tuning experience...

you should get another quote on the headers. I haven't taken the stock manifolds off but it doesn't look like a 1k job. I'm with chappy, if u want to get rid of em....let us know.

I could see $1K for install and tune. But not just the wrenching.
I would find another shop.
