Can’t Decide Between GTS, GTC & GTR. Some info inside.

Wow. Respectfully disagree with all of this, and some of it is untrue. GTS is not being phased out. The model line globally is GT, GTS, GTC, GTR.
GTC is the truest to the original design in my view. It looks clean, aggressive, but also classy. You can drive it to the opera or to the track. The rear steer is AWESOME! HUGE difference. The car handles like a go cart on winding roads, and feels more stable on the highway (as if the wheelbase is lengthened). Plus you can make U-turns with ease. I know the GTS is cheaper, but if you have an extra $20-30K, it’s worth it. Also, not all GTS will have the full leather dash, illuminated door sills, AMG projectors under the mirrors, Alcantara roof, and a few other bits.
I don’t track my cars (more than 1-2 times), so the GTR was not for me. I like a glass roof - which makes the interior a LOT more airy and open. The GTR with it’s short windows and no glass roof feels like you’re sitting in a German pillbox in Normandy. The GTR loses the automatic rear spoiler, which I love, and you can’t get the carbon bucket seats here, or the retractable cargo cover. And on Toronto/NYC roads, the GTR suspension is way too harsh.
2020MY redesign - I hate it! The center console is terrible! The whole point of the original design was that the 8 round knobs invoked a V8 engine. That’s now gone. The buttons on the steering wheel feel super-cheap - the whole pod moves when you press a button. It also doesn’t make sense - you don’t need redundant buttons when you have them on the console. It’s stupid and it’s now no longer a bespoke design for the 2 door.
My 2 cents, and this is what I did, is the GTC. I also live in Canada and drive it year round (but not on big snow days). I can confirm there is tons of traction with Michelin Alpin PA4s.
There are MASSIVE discounts now on brand new 2019 GTCs. I saved well over 20% on a brand new car. Check Autotrader.ca and see if there are any left. One last thing - MAKE SURE to get the Track Package so you get the adjustable transmission and engine mounts. You can tell if the car has it if the gauge markers are yellow (on pre 2020 cars). All GTRs have it.
Finally, keep in mind that whichever model you get, they are VERY rare. About 1700 cars were sold in N. America in 2018. That’s about half the # of 911 GT3s that were sold.
Forget the Jaguar - there’s a reason why it’s half the price. Reliabilty is sh~t. Performance is nowhere near the GT.

I’ve realized after all the comments is that there is no singular answer, doh! 😂
The way I see it, if I’m getting a GTC, I might as well say **** it and get the full beans, aka GTR (imo).

Never, Ever, as in not in this lifetime, buy a Jaguar. Had a new '18 F-Pace S w/ everything on it (77K) when they were still uncommon, owned it 4 months and it damn near drove me out of my mind. Every day, something was wrong with it, anything that was electronically controlled be it transmission, suspension, info-tainment/phone system, ANYTHING, was complete crap! Open the door, beep, vehicle not in park, or, beep, suspension mode inop, phone? good luck with that!! Service was horrendous, 2 week wait just to get an appointment, then it sat there for a week before they touched it, after another 1 1/2 weeks did a software update & pencil whipped the rest, came back with more problems than before. Even a simple issue like windshield wash spraying all over the hood leaving spots on dark grey metallic paint was acceptable, gum snapping service chick says, yah, they do that...seriously? Line of jag's & rovers out the door for service all the time, what's that tell you? Btw, that new-ish rover thing, velar, is just an F-Pace re-skinned for 40K more, same p.o.s. That R, after f-type, stands for Regret.
Traded my p.o.s. Jag for a new '18 AMG GLE 63S for 50K more....best thing I ever did.
There, I feel better now.

I’ll pass on the F-Type R.
There is a clean looking 2016 GTS Edition 1 With 20k kms for $109k CAD. Thing is, warranty ends in tail end of this year.
Price seems decent for what it is compared to others.
Thoughts?

thank you for the excellent response. There aren’t many GTC’s in Autotrader in Southern Ontario, and the new ones I see are cabriolet’s/drop tops, not for me.

The only thing is I’m not sure how many have the Track Package, which is a must have. The Kitchener car does have it, and the Edmonton cars might.

Unless you’re going to the track often, it’s silly to drive a GTR. You don’t want to be the Poseur driving 55 mph on the I90 in your track toy.

Brother, you can be satisfied in your purchase without having to convince everyone else that they need to also buy the same car as you.

I’m all for getting ‘the best’, but in this case it comes with significant drawbacks if you have no need for it.

That’s not a new car - there are plenty of brand new GTCs for sale at the same or lower price than what Pfaff is showing in Kitchener.
I was referring to this one:
Saw this 2019 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT on autoTRADER.ca's iPad app

Both of these have the dynamic engine mounts from the Track Pack. There may be others that do, but you have to contact the dealers.

I actually do drive my GTR on track, but it still remains primarily a street car like I’d warrant every other GTR purchased, except for perhaps Mariano’s car which probably lives at COTA! lol. I bought it because for me, it represented the current state of the art in the AMG GT line of vehicles, and is/was one of the fastest street cars produced at the time and for a somewhat reasonable price. To these old eyes, it makes a beautiful design far more aggressive and visually appealing. I personally do not care for the attention the car attracts on the street as that’s not the type of person I am, but if it makes me a ‘poseur’ in your eyes, I really couldn’t give a toss.

Some of you are getting all worked up over advice that was directed at a potential new owner who asked for help choosing among the 3 GT models available to him.
When I see that fixed spoiler that just adds drag for normal highway driving, I cringe... but that’s just my POV.

After all it covers different purpose cars featuring different options.
Lots of personal preferences, justification of the purchase decisions, pricing and resale values plus different markets.
After all these cars are also cheaper in Canada than in the US.
I would ask the OP to first drive all models and then refine the question.

I think the spoiler ruins the look of the car, I don't like the dark interior, I don't like Alcantara, I like ventilated seats, I like the retractable cover, and I almost never track my cars.
I like the front extendable apron and the exhaust of the GTR, that's it. Was that worth $50K more? Nope. (Normally the GTC and GTR are about the same price, which makes sense. There's still somewhat of an oversupply of 2019 GTCs in Canada, so prices are way below MSRP).

Do you know how to use Autotrader? There are 7 brand new 2019 GTC coupes for sale right now, including one in Kitchener. (There were about 15 three months ago, they are selling fast!). You’re going to pay $50-60K less for a GTC than a GTR (since a GTR would be 2020). The GTR is certainly not worth that kind of premium. Remember, you can negotiate heavily on the in-stock 2019s. You should be paying $140-145K+tax, max.
The only thing is I’m not sure how many have the Track Package, which is a must have. The Kitchener car does have it, and the Edmonton cars might.

also, The two ads you showed, the first one is way overpriced. Second on in Montreal is decent but at that point I’d rather spend $15k more and get a GTR.

I’m considering going to see a 2016 GTS Edition 1 with 21k kms on it. Asking $109k CAD. Warranty ends this year. How much of an issue is no warrant on these cars along with the higher kms?
My thoughts are towards a GTS or a GTR. Unless A GTC is a great deal and in the $115k to $120k price realm, I would rather go with a GTR, which can be had for $160k to $170k CAD.

Get the GTR if you like it. Who gives a S**T if someone thinks you are a poseur. 99% of track oriented street cars never see the track so I guess they are "poseurs"
I track my GTR HARD and I DD it some weeks depending on weather. The car is amazing for street use too. That is the real beauty of the GTR, you can DD, go a long trips and also be a monster on the track.
GTC is also an amazing car! love the way the car looks without the spoiler as well.
