Check Engine Oil at next fill up message
Folks,
I have a 2008 R320cdi that intermittently kicks up the message to check my oil at the next fill up. I figured there must be a sensor thinking the oil is lower than it should be and not just a random message assuming I have nothing better to do. Every time I check the oil it is dead on in the center of the range. No change whatsoever. I was thinking about talking to the dealer about it, but haven't yet. The car has about 11k miles right now and I have no other complaints.
I had a bigger fish to fry with my CL55 recently and took it in for service. The dealer gave me an ML320cdi to drive in the mean time. This car also kicks an intermittent "Check oil" message while driving. All of that information was to see if this is a real common thing people are experiencing.
I appreciate any feedback.

I read through your attachment thread. I saw a post that sounded like someone thought having the automated level check would not also have a dipstick. Maybe I misunderstood them, but regardless my car has both and they seem at odds with each other. I trust the dipstick first given its design. I also see that this does not seem to be relegated to the diesels. I posted it in this forum, because I saw it with the two diesels and have no issue with my CL. Maybe it is just part of the sensor design regardless of application.
Back to your situation; has anything changed? Did bumping the level up eliminate the warning? With mine being dead middle, I am not inclined to add oil. Thanks for the feedback.

Some new info:
Here is what the Manual states.
When checking the oil level.
Min---------Max
The filling quantity between the upper and lower marks on the oil dipstick is approximately 2.1 US qt (2.0 l)
Here is what the Manual states.
When checking the oil level.
- the vehicle must be parked on level ground.
- with the engine at operating temperature, the vehicle must have been stationary for at least 5 minutes with the engine turned off.
- with the engine not at operating temperature yet, the vehicle must have been stationary for at least 30 minutes with the engine turned off.

I appreciate the info. I met those requirements, but did not consider that there would be 2.1 US Qts of range between the min and max levels. As I mentioned before, it is dead center, but maybe I will add a little to get it a little higher and see if that takes care of the problem. Thanks.

I guess if it needs to be replaced that is an option. My reason for asking the question was to see if this is common. The sensor is functioning in some manner, it just appears to be out of tolerance. I appreciate your feedback that you have not experienced the same problem; especially as the owner of two diesels.

Alright, I have the answer. I called the dealership and after they looked into it they discovered that there is an update available for download that will fix the problem. They are picking up my wife's car on Wednesday and when it returns I will check it out and provide feedback. Of course, if it is solved, I am unlikely to have anything to report.

What is wrong with a $2.00 worth of stainless steel dipstick like 99% of cars?
They do not want anyone to touch the car but the MB dealerships.
They have brought back the oil dipstick in the 2009s.
Transmission dipstick still absent. You need the MB "tool".
Tool of the day indeed.

I have a 2006 C350. But the older model C classes the computer (dyno mode) tells you how much level you are at. Nice feature I guess.

Story changed a bit since my last post. It seems some can be fixed by update, but mine required new Oil Level Sending Unit. In addition there was a campaign for replacing the Tele Aid modules, so that was done. Apparently some of the modules have instances where they won't communicate.
The dealer is delivering my car tomorrow, so I will have better knowledge of the changes soon after.

My HD 2500, which I just did a frame off restoration of this past month, uses RPM and hours running to calculate 'oil change intervals'.
Great part about using Amsoil is, once a year or 25,000 miles is all I need worry about.

The later versions of the 722.9 trans dont have a dip stick tube any longer either so you don't need the factory tool....trans fluid is drained, and filled (pumped in), through a valve on the bottom of the pan. Not certain of the actual cutoff dates; does not apply to early dot 9's.
