I need to find out if there is an easy way to remove the grill's chrome trim on my 2018 E400; I want to paint it same color as the car, but do not want to do it while installed. Would someone know if it is just clips that attach it? Or is it a more complicated job where the bumper will have to be removed to get to the back of the trim.
If it's anything like the 2016 e400, it is not necessary to remove the bumper. In fact, very few tools are required; I can only recall unscrewing one bolt. However, it is a time-consuming and frustrating process because the pieces, which are essentially "snapped" together, do not let go without a fight, and it is very easy to break their connecting tabs.

Mr. Toad,
Thanks for your response. I just found a parts diagram for the front grille and it seems to be a real piece of work as you mentioned. I will do a bit more research and try it out this coming weekend. If not, I will ask the dealer what it would cost to remove it for me.
If there is anyone else out there who may have some tricks to tackle this removal, it will be appreciated.
I have a 2017 C207. My grill was damaged, so I ordered a new one (with front camera) from a Mercedes dealer. Seriously, it took about 15 minutes to remove and replace the grill. This is the video I watched first. It's pretty simple. There are other videos also.:
Thanks again for the guidance, but I did not see anything related / referenced to the actual chrome trim around the grille. I have seen a few about replacing the grille from the old style to the one I have already in the car.
There was one who sort mentioned that it was very simple to remove, but it did not show how to tackle it, the whole trim and grille were already off.
I will try what the guy sort mentioned how to do it and find out how simple / difficult it may be.
Thanks for the reference, but this is the old model, where the grille frame is split with the hood. The 2018 (and I think the 2017) have a wrap around trim attached tothe bumper.
I ended up painting the chrome trim the same color as the car, in Selenite grey. I had an accident right after that and the car was totaled; I placed an order for a new one and just got it last month finally after a little more than a year waiting. It is an 2022 E53; big upgrade.
