New wheels, clicking sound during each rotation?

I just put some AMG style rims on. They are 35mm offset, 17x7.5 front and rear. Put them on myself, and went for a drive, and there is a loud clicking/ticking sound coming from the rear. It happens about once every rotation (judged by the sound frequency increasing when the car is moving faster, and slower when car is moving slower -also happens when car is rolling in neutral with engine off). Just wondering if anyone knows what this could be?

Any help would be appreciated. Should I get them put on professionally? Simply DIY fixes?

Possibly a brake rotor backing plate. Its a pretty thin piece of metal that may have been slightly bent somehow. See if you can reach through the wheel and push it off slightly and then drive the car again.

Had the same problem on the rears when I put the monoblocks on. Your lugnuts are probably a tad too long. Easiest DIY fix is if you have an orbital grinder....Just take off like 2mm and see if it fixes it.

If you are convinced it is only ONE click every rotation, pull one lug nut at a time and drive the car so find out which one is causing it.

Thanks. I'm thinking I'll just take it to a tyre specialist and they can deal with it. Sorry about not finding similar threads and causing 'deja vu'. I did search around, but didn't find any similar threads.
Thanks again.

i searched for 'clicking' in the w124 section and this was the third result:
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...en-moving.html

go through it and it will give you some possible causes, but most probably your lug bolts are too long.

Contrary to what everyone else is saying, I would suspect the weights used to balance your tires. 90%

Contrary to what anyone one here says, I'd put that car on a hoist and inspect it visualy, these are tires you drive on, dont risk it.

Most people do not have hoists man. And what would he be looking for? Not much help there. We are all offering our first hand experience of the same situation. No need for a hoist when we have probable reasons of why he's having the symptoms he is.

Everyone here should know what i'm going to say... weights used now are stick on and don't make any noises and even the clamp on weights shouldn't rub on 7.5 wide rims...

click on the link and read...

Well I mean take the car to the shop (an experienced mechanic), at this point we are all guessing here...

Very true.

OH and YNV.... I have had my weights hit my dust shield when they were placed towards that part of the rim. Ive had them mounted towards the center of the wheel ever since.

Don't just buy shorter lugs... you need to get at least 5-6 turns out of them...

i think he might be okay (depending how short he went), because the new lug is not going on the old wheel, it's on a new wheel, so i guess what counts is the length of lug going into the hub, right? for mine, i pushed the OEM lug through the OEM wheel and measured what came out the other side. then on my new wheel, pushed the lug through there and saw how much extra came out compared to OEM. I knew that i needed a new lug X mm shorter so that it would still go into the hub by the same amount (in length and turns).

Sorry, I should have stated before: I had the shorter wheel nuts fitted along with the new wheels and tyres by a good privately owned wheel specialist. He talked me through the problem and said that the new nuts fitted to the rear are short enough, and also safe. Photos soon.

Noise after new tires installed

My wheel had a chirping noise and found the problem after I installed Uniroyal 205 75r14 tires which is like riding on a cloud. It was the dust plate in the front wheel. It was slightly bent and it was hitting the brake caliper. I tapped it in with a small ball peen hammer and no more noise.
