Are 17 by 8 inch wheels too wide for a W124?

I have a set of Zenetti Milano 17 x 8's on my W124 400E in the summer and i have few problems with them rubbing or anything. Everything is still original stock setup with the suspension and everything. I only have rubbing when i go over big bumps too fast. That is my only problem. So i guess you would be fine with a set.

How fast do you have to go to make the tires rub on a big bump?

65 or above, unless it's a larger bump, or pothole. But at the moment i'm looking into springs and what not to help with that issue, if driven conservatively i doubt you will have a problem seeing as i have a tendency to push it in unfavorable conditions and roads or so i have been told. What kind of wheels are you looking into?

If you roll your fenders you should not have any trouble.

MBE 500, Toyota Celica x2, Yamaha R1,
I run 8,5X18 with 245/40-18, but depends on what model you have.

ooooh!! AGAIN rubbing the wide fendered 500E in our faces!! LOL Yeah 18x10 can fit on your car in the rear, but 8 is the most on non-500E500 W124's to ride sans headaches
