The Turbodiesel Drop...

what do u mean "what did it take" if you mean part wise. i have H&R sport springs, KYB struts and #1 spring caps. also replaced both left and right inner and outer tie rods and got the alignment done. it rides really nice...

Is that a cap you have for your steering wheel? If so, where did you get it? It looks nice from the pictures. What is your personal feeling on its look and quality? I've been looking at getting one of those. Thanks for any help,

went from this...
to this...
heres the mod list...
AMG 17" rims.
H&R Sport Springs
KYB Struts
#1 Spring Caps
Brembo Slotted Rotors
Akebono Pads
as for the overall ride. I love it. not harsh at all. I feel the road much better now and feel safer. turn in is precise and correct. body sway is minimum so i dont think ill be getting sway bars. no rubbing issues, no bottoming out... and i drove all over NNJ and the 5 boroughs of NYC and not one problem.
as for this mod. Id recommend if u want a little more road feel.
now when it comes to rim size im sure the ride will vary. im looking to get atleast 19s for summer as the 17s are for winter. so im sure ill come across a different driving expierence. till then thanks for the replys.

the down pipe off the turbo has a cat, i wanted to delete it and put a cut out in. but no can do. if i take the cat out ill throw a CEL or other code.
can i put my own high flow cat on without throwing a CEL?? cause then ill put the cut out after the cat on the dp.
and can someone correct me on this. do diesels use catalic converters or is the cat lookin thing after the turbo really a catalic converter??

They call it an oxidizer trap. It serves a similar function as a catalytic convertor. Mine began making noise because the element inside wore out, and began rattling.
My guess is that you can put your own high flow cat on with custom modifications. As for throwing a code... I don't know.
A cheaper way to do it is disconnect the exhaust system from the turbo. Then get a long rod and shove it into the oxidizer trap. Break up the element into pieces and hollow it out. That's what I did with mine.

well the main reason i wanted to change the trap was to eliminate all the bends off the turbo. so putting a straight high flow cat with a cut out is what ill look into. thanks.

1999 Mercedes E300 TurboDiesel
MVdanker- congrats on your newly transformed ride! It looks like you've got some good clearance...but then again you took your pictures laying on the ground. Cool pics, hard to judge gaps You may be only the second or third guy around the forums to have dropped an E300
My feeling is that (depending on your age) most folks that aren't performance oriented(willing to accept some real sacrifice for their performance upgrades) will find the ride harsh up north. It's fun for romping around, but you feel all those potholes and railroad tracks, and hope the suspension and the rest of the car is stout enough to withstand the additional abuse over the long haul. I had a very similar setup on my '99, loved it - but the new owner found it harsh. My only advice to people considering this, is find someone local and ride in a car with this setup before committing. Oh, and this is easy to find if you search, but for those who are lazy, if you are dropping an E300 with H&R springs, make sure you get the v8 front springs, and E320/300 rear springs. The weight of the cast iron block will cause rubbing and all kinds of fubar if you run the E320 springs up front, I learned the hard way
MV - don't bother with the exhaust. The last real restriction lies in the turbo, and you'll only gain more noise and spend money messing with changing out the exhaust. You won't gain any performance without additional fueling (chip/injectors) and you still can't push enough boost with the little stocker turbo to have the stock exhaust be a real restriction (i.e high egt's). There's actually still some room within the operating limits of the stock turbo (of course paired with additional fueling) to manually adjust the wastegate to allow for a few psi more boost. I'd recommend gauges if you start getting into that, boost/egt. have fun and post your mods!

thanks alot lightman. lately ive been back and forth with the mod. (just found out i have a baby on the way). i called H&R before i bought the springs and they said they only have one set of springs now for the E300/E320. there for v6 and v8. i think by them doing this all u have to do is adjust height with spring pads. imo only...
