Rough/Jerking E420 DIY success!
Anyway, yesterday the car very suddenly became rough at idle... really almost bouncing/jerking around. Much worse than a rough idle from engine mounts or something. Got the codes read at autozone. One of the 4 errors was misfire on cylinder #5. Popped in a new spark plug. No luck. Swapped the ignition coil on #5 and #6 and the car still jerked but felt different. Started getting excited thinking I found the problem. Autozone code recheck elicited shouts of glee with a misfire on #6. Couldn't wait to put on the new coil so did it in the parking lot of the dealer in about 3 minutes. Running smooth as silk again!
Here are the original codes:
P0305 - misfire on #5
P0507 - IAC cirucuit condition or idle speed too high/low
P0115 - ECT (Engine coolant temp) circuit
P1747 (didn't look this up yet)
Will the codes clear on their own after time now that it's fixed, or do I need to stop by autozone to clear?
Are all the above codes likely to be related to the misfire/ignition coil?
Thanks again guys for all the help and advice here.

It will reset and clear the conditions that you fixed,so drive it and in a few days of drive cycles or do my generic drive cycle procedure and then read the codes again and see what is still active if the light remains on.
Why not go to http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta..._stores.taf#CA
take a copy of the internet ad for the $39 94169 scanner obd2 w/can
and then you will always have the handy tool when you need it

I also added some info to point people in the direction of harbor on EverythingBenz under searches like check engine light or P0305.
I am going to add functionality so that that queries that include the error code show the code description at the top of the results.
Let me know if you object to being credited on the site for the scanner recommendation, ohlord!
I keep pointing people to your new site and when you fine tune it it will really be a great resource!

Hey at least you have an autozone that will let you get the codes. One member on benzworld had autozone tell them they did not have a scanner for European cars

Althou, thats a bit strange cuz my EC light is on when i have the heater on, and from what I have read here before, it means something might be wrong with the A/C or something.....so i dont know why theres no code for that .....

If it does go off,run the diagnostics
http://www.eclassbenz.com/node/27
post the values and the errors.
If it does not go off, your compressor is not running and most likely you have a leak in the system and all or most of the r134a is gone and you will need to have the leak located and fixed and the system recharged.SOme people try to do it themselves however with a big enough leak to lose it all you may be better off having a shop do it.
