I'm just curious to survey what people plan for their 210. Please post your intention/s for our historic cars.... cheers!

In my case with over 140K miles on the car I think that she is going to stay in the family for the long haul. The trade in value is minimal to justify giving her up. Still a great car for the money to be driving around for sure. I would trade up though if the opportunity came for an E55.

Going to
a w211 or a newer S class would not be an upgrade.The jury is still out on the new W so wait about 7 years when they are 15% of MSRP and then buy a well inspected low mile model

I have a 99 with 142k miles. It is 5 more years or 200k miles for me. Then it will be either an S-class or a Hyundai

is what describes what I have for my w210. The car has been there for me more often then not. Its fast when I need it, and is a perfect cruiser for relaxed, long drives. I like the S-Class a lot and wouldn't mind picking one up, but not at the expense of my beloved W210. Still catches looks for a 8 year old car. I used to be a valet driver and had the chance to drive almost anything you could think of. But at the end of the day, I was always happy to go back to my Mercedes. It feels like a Mercedes more than the newer ones. IMHO

The w220 rides smoother, has more comfortable seats, way more options, nicer interior materials (at least in my designo addition), is a good bit quieter, and looks far more modern.
It may not be as reliable, and may have more expensive repairs, but it is 100% upgrade.
Until you've owned one, you probably shouldn't talk out of your ***.

Given that
the odometer on my W124 (87) stopped turning at 262k miles and I drove it probably another 10-20k miles beyond that, I'd say I'm going to drive my W210 into the dirt. Thanks to various forums, I'm able to do the vast majority of maintenance items for my car myself. Another thing to keep in mind is what a horrible investment cars are. I know most of us all are crazy about our cars, but keep in mind how quickly it (and really, just about any car) depreciates as an asset. Except for computers and already consumed food, I'm hard pressed to think of anything that loses value faster than a vehicle. Still, in my book, that's a good incentive for getting an MB, as you know you'll be getting a quality ride you can enjoy for a very long time. My only concern is safety. I seem to remember reading that the effective lifetime of an airbag is approximately 10 years. With that kind of age restriction, it might be cost prohibitive to replace all the airbags on a W210. Is there anyone informed who can offer an opinion on the efficacy of aged airbags?

The 220 while it may have nice seats, doesn't have the 'Presence' of any other S class (126, 140 or 221)
I am more than happy with my '97 210 E420 70k miles
Though I'm thinking of getting a low mile '02 SL to either replace my '96 or keep it company in the garage!

I would argue that only a brand new S class has "presence". A 126 nowadays? gas station employees and high school kids drive them. Not much presence anymore. Same with the 140. Nice looking car, but presence
Once you stare out at the hood star from the cabin of a 220, I think you might change your mind about presence.

Is you can't even tell if a 220 S Class is a C Class from a distance.
There was no mistaking a 126 or a 140 then or now.
I'll say it again, a 220 S Class may ride a little more comfy, but its lacking PRESENCE compared to its S Class brethren. IMO

Now you're gonna tell me the 220, which has a completely different hood, grille, and headlights, not to mention interior, looks more like a C class then the 202/140.
The 202 is simply a smaller version of the 140.
The 220 has a totally different look to it, with the possible exception of the rearend.

The W210 was a good car I owned mine for 4 years before trading up to a W211 which I also like very much and is an upgrade. It too will go in another year or two. The W211 is more comfortable, handles better and is as good or better as so far as quality is concerned. Every time I see a W210 on the street I can't get over how dated it now looks. It will never be a collector car nor is it a great performance car but it was excellent reliable transportation. Nothing lasts forever!!

doesn't it? if i wanted the look and the comfort features, it would be a plus.
if I value reliability and lower repair costs, moving to a 220 would be a poor
choice.

granted, but if reliability and low repair costs was the primary concern, why the hell would anyone buy a used mercedes? If thats what mattered, you should be driving a new toyota camry or lexus. When I think about a vehicle "upgrade", I think about driving dynamics, comfort, appearance, prestige, etc. Reliability is a concern, but a later 220 is not exactly a bucket of bolts that is just waiting to fall apart.

I just turned 36,000 miles on mine. I recently drove it on a small trip, averaged about 70mph and got 34MPG! Car looks stunning to me and isn't worth squat. I'll keep it for a long long time.

While i was offered by my dealer to upgrade to the new 211 E55 when it first came out, test drove it and felt the interior to be a bit cheap and too much plastic inside.
Felt the the interior on mine is much more solid and refined. Since then the car has been transformed to an S8!
