temp. control panel won't light up
all small swithch lights work but main back light will not. and temp. fluxuates up and down when set at middle range, example, 75

THANKS GUYS, I THINK I CAN FIX THE LIGHT MYSELF BUT NOT SURE ABOUT THE TEMP. PROBLEM. WIFE SAID WHEN BOTH SIDS ARE SET AT 85, DRIVER-SIDE HEATS UP, PASS.-SIDE BLOWS COLD. ANY HINTS? 2000 E320 4MATIC.

Run the Onboard climate control
diagnostics and you will most likely discover the Duo-valve is stuck.
You can give them a tap(a firm drum like thump)with the end of a wooden screw driver handle.That usually frees it up,if not fixed then you can take it apart,clean it and lube it and problem solved.
Post your data values 1-8 only and errors in the error mode.Write them down to post here and then in error mode press both auto buttons at the same time to clear the error block.

It is a tiny
bulb only attained online but by the time you pay shipping cheaper at the dealer.
You will need a set of radio keys to pull the cc module,flip it over ,twist out the socket and replace the tiny bulb,install back in and job complete
