I've bought a kit that looks nearly identical, I'm guessing that's it. I bought from another seller. $105 is a good price. You'll just need a laptop, assuming they include the software (it says they do). It says all k lines are wired, which is good (otherwise you have to manually change pins around).

Ok cool thaks for your input I think I'm gonna buy it, so how has your scanner worked out for you? Is it pretty simple to use? I'm real good with cars I've just never had to use a scanner like this before though thanks for all your help

That's pretty sweet? What are the limitations of this unit? I guess your average shadetree mechanic can do most diagnostic and settings changes from their garage now, rather than going to a stealer?

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
You can do diagnostics for 50 bucks

with a obd2 reader from Harborfreight. Changing settings will not be done with a carsoft unit so why spend the money.
If you need more then the regular obd2 info and know what to do with a real time data logger. Pick up a autotap unit and it will work and provide you with more info short of owning an SDS machine.

I asked about it's limitations as it states the following feature "Xenon light systems until 2004 live data , activation" I figured it come do some, but not all. FTW, already have a HF code reader.

It also says

it does ac data by telling you how to read it on your indash display which we all know how to do for free. And it also says no returns and no support. So unless you were coding a set of xenons to retro fit an oem system and did not know how to do it the unit would be worthless to you.
Resetting service intervals are all procedures listed in the owners manual and if a shade tree mechanic needs real time data he knows or thinks he knows more than the average diy'r.
Caveat emptor.

In theory you can use this to set variables. I bought mine to disable the teleaid, but I never really got around to messing with it. The software is not the most intuitive. More perseverance, though, would probably pay off.

If you have no qualms about pirated software and reverse engineered hardware, and you don't mind sending money (via paypal) to China and waiting 2 - 4 weeks, then go for it.

Here's the same thing with Free Shipping:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16919

Google "Mercedes Multiplex Carsoft 7.4" and you'll get dozens of hits. All for the same kit from a variety of sources -- all in China or Hong Kong. Also a couple in Canada but appear to be a distributor for a China co. Some sites are wholesale. No prices - request quote - min. order quantity 3 or more.

Most include SW but if not it is available free for download. Google Carsoft 7.4. There's also a post from a guy from Belgium (mercedesshop forum) where the REAL Carsoft is produced who points out the risks in trying to reverse engineer the multiplexor which is why some units don't work because the engineer guessed wrong.

These units do appear to do more than an OBDII scanner.

Caveats are: 1) be sure all K-lines are connected and 2) make sure you have a laptop with a DB9 serial port. USB to Serial adapters are reported to not work but PCMCIA to Serial adapters work for some laptops. If you only get about 3 functions, check for a post regarding using a paper clip and the banana clip cable to access other functions.

You might also PM Kobus on benzworld_dot_org who has used one for awhile.

Good luck. And if you buy please post follow up with your experiences.

i have an obdII and it gives generic codes to get mb specific codes your scanner has to be capable of reading mb codes does the autotap unit read and erase mb codes? also does it read all different parts of the car like ecu, tcm, and abs and all those good things?
