Painting lower front spoiler on '96-99 cars...

Has anyone themselves painted the front spoiler on the pre-update cars?

I am considering doing it on mine. Can you go to Mercedes and buy a can of the paint and a can of the clear coat, or must you go to an autobody supply store for the paint? I've painted cars before and am looking for the easiest solution. Is it simple to remove that front spoiler?

Thanx guys for your input...

Looking at this pic the painting would make the front end stand out a little bolder. The caddy has it painted and looks sharp!

i'm sure you can but when i had mine on i had my bodyshop do it for me, shouldn't cost that much, from the pic i think you also paint your door trim, looks like its darker then your paint or it could just be the sun

yeah after about the fist year I noticed it started chipping, nothing crazy but kind of similar to the chips you get on the front end from driving FAST on the freeway. If the chips bother you they can be covered with touch up but the spot where they are at is almost under the car so most people dont notice them.

Go for it! I think painting the lower part of all 4 sides makes the car more complete and updated (if you have any paint left, color coding your rubber impact strips works too).

I believe the extent of chipping depends on the type of paint and workmanship. Mine was painted for a year before I got my AMG kit (couldn't stand the black bits) without any noticeable chips on the sides (OK, not much highway either). Mine was done by a bodyshop - I suggest leaving it up to the pro's (have them "bake" the paint to harden it more).

How much was it to paint guys?

Im putting a set of used front and rear brabus add on lips and Carlsson sideskirts. MY bodyshop wants 400 bucks to fix up a couple of cracks (fiberglass), strip, paint and mount.

So glad you'd finally removed the old sig (the cop car with the flashing lights was pretty cool tho'). Stupid question but can you please tell me how to put a pic at the bottom of the signature? Mnay thanks.

But sorry, can't reply to your question as I'm not in the States.

Well how much in your country was it?

To put a pic in your sig, have the pic hosted somewhere, then just put it between the IMG tag like you would a pic on a post and that's it.

You can set it up in your usercp under 'edit profiles'

Ah, that's why I can't do it - I don't have the sig I want posted anywhere! Thks all the same.

Mine was painted when I got my ride but as a general rule, its around US$130 per panel (i.e. approx US$500 for all four sides).

That's a great price. I don't know how advanced your body shop is but mine actually mixes the paint electronically with this mixing machine when they enter your paint code into it. It's pretty cool. Good luck and good choice on Carlsson. As soon as I get back to LA from Hotlanta my Carlsson front bumper will be installed as it is ready and waiting for me. I also have another OEM Carlsson full front bumper that is brand new if anyone is interested. I will include primer and paint in the deal. PM me with serious inquiries only for details, don't have time for BS, thanks.
