August 05 campaigns (A service recall is one that gets done on the next visit).
(1) Recall Campaign # 2005070007
Model Year 2004 - Models 211 & 230
Inspect SBC Hydraulic Unit, replace as directed
(15979 vehicles affected)
SBC brake system may prematurely shift to the hydraulic back up mode due to the loosening of the ground wire harness connection over time, or due to premature failure of the hydraulic pump. Dealers will install a bracket and replace the ground wire, and if required, replace the hydraulic pump and suction hose.
All vehicles subject to last years SBC recall, both open and closed will be campaigned under this years SBC campaigns.
211:
A470365 to A475255, A470992 to A508719, A461620, A457431 to A511132, A457447 to A511135, A457425 to A510794, X119124 to X123272, X119111 to X123267, A465748, A457426 to A510952, X119113 to X123268

(2) Service Campaign # 2005060008
Model Year 2003-2005 – Models 211 & 219 (2006)
Programming battery control module
(152949 vehicles affected)
Implausible or illogical messages can appear in the instrument cluster which will result in certain electrical consumers being shut down. This is caused by the battery control unit erroneously evaluating the battery charge level as good when the actual charge level may be insufficient.

(3) Service Campaign # 2005070017
Model Year 2002-2005 – Models 211 & 230
Inspect alternator, replace regulator if necessary
(14923 vehicles affected)
The alternator regulator may fail to prevent voltage values ranging beyond the specified tolerance limits. As a result, the battery may be insufficiently recharged and the convenience systems may be shut off due to a resulting under voltage condition. The voltage drop is accompanied by a corresponding message display at the instrument cluster.

thanks for the excellent data, konigstiger.
I've just received my recall letter here in the UK, for an SBC issue, and yet my chassis no is not anywhere near those listed. Odd.
(I am near, although just outside, the battery control module recall list, but haven't had a letter for that one).

Phoenix Motors called me yesterday and told me all three recalls apply to my 3/04 build E320 and that they came out 8/2. Phoenix Motors haven't done two of them yet so I'm going to wait a while for someone else to be the guinea pig

Is this the one that causes the A/C to turn off when it's hot? It happened to me again today (2nd time).

Took my 04/E500 in yesterday for the moonroof issue and the service advisor told me about the recalls. They need (Penske MB in W. Covina) 2 days to do everything since they are missing parts for the recalls.

The SBC recall adds a bracket to keep the plug for the SBC ground wire from coming out. According to the recall letter, the change takes 4 hours. They must have to do some serious cable rework.
The recall for the voltage regulator tests it and if it's bad, I understand they replace the entire alternator.
The battery recall doesn't require a part.
So the only two parts I know about are the bracket (and perhaps the ground cable) along with the possibility of an alternator.

Count me in, boys!
My saga of pain with the SBC system never seems to end. My first '03 E500 was a lemon due to the SBC brakes having multiple pump failures (leaking).
Now, in my "new" E500 4MATIC, the SBC has already been reprogrammed. Then, I just received the letter regarding the latest SBC recall requiring the installation of a special bracket to the system. I just spoke with my advisor and guess what? My car falls into the class that requires replacement of the SBC pump!
I already had 2 SBC pump replacements in my '03... grrreat.
The second pump I had to wait 9 weeks for prior to installation due to the unavailability of the pumps that were being remanufactured in Germany.
While it's in, it's getting a software flash and the alternator recall that the advisor just found out about. I do not know if the replacement parts are even in stock right now.
I'm speechless.

MBUSA has been sitting on this stuff for quite a while so it's not a life and death situation.

My comments are towards the bottom of the thread.
In reference to my current car, the brakes were working fine except for an occasional pressure relief type squeaking sound that I would hear every once in a while. It sounded like a reservoir purging itself.
On this latest visit, the dealer replaced the SBC pump and did the cable upgrade. The advisor also mentioned changing out the alternator, but I don't have the invoice in front of me right now.
I have reasonable confidence in my dealer's ability to work on cars. The disconnect, I believe, starts at MBUSA and then filters on down to the dealers. There's definitely a communication issue, and my advisor's lack of knowledge of the alternator TSB is simply par for the course.
Knock wood
Cheers,

My service advisor claims that my car has no current recalls. He punched in the serial number and checked on the computer. Is that how they check for any potential recalls?

If your Vin number doesn't match any of the ones listed, you should be OK. If it does, you should print off the first post and show it to your SA.

The only recall campaign is for the SBC. It's called a safety campaign and you'll get a letter about it. I just got mine. The letter says you should take your car in sometime in the next 60 days and that it will take four hours to do the work
The other two are service campaigns and are done the next time you bring your car in for service.
