Now it makes sense and is true. They recommend it indeed. I thought you were talking about flushing the SBC unit itself every 2 years.

05 E500 Airmatic failure - 'Visit workshop'

I have a 05 E500 and noticed after parking my car outside overnight in very cold weather, I get the error 'Visit workshop' with a outline picture of a car with an arrow pointing up. The error seems to disappear after driving the car for a while and or the outside temperature warms up. Also at least (4)four times in extreme overnight temp., the battery died and had to be jumped. Has anyone experienced this issue and or know of the cause. Is there a "DTB" bulletin for my year Mercedes? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hey how are you? I know this thread is old. But can you send me more info on the recall? I'm from Chicago but stuck in Toronto at the moment. I think my car split open. Anyway, my email address is sanjaypsinha@gmail.com. Thank you

I would say it's simply an old and/or dead battery and this is nothing MB covers. Why should they? No car maker covers batteries, brakes, and other wear and tear items.

Mercedes sl55 amg 2003
Hi we have recently brought a sl55 .amg
It had only traveled approx 71.000 ks
I've read up on the SBC recall and now all the others.
Nth shore Mercedes charged us fairly heavily
For labour it was not a plea sent experience they've
Tried to say the USA 10 year extension was lolly a fraudulent document.
They now have suggested I do not come back to their workshop in the future
As I felt it was only fair the recalls were honoured worldwide consistently"
A recall is a fault of the manufacturer as
It states "
It looks like there are large a number
Of software upgrades etc that it hasn't had done

Please contact me as I find what you have written
Interesting and very fair"

Hello. My car E320 (american) 2004 year has a SBC problem. I went to Mercedes Center Tbilisi to change this part for free. But after 2-3 days they called me and told that I have got rejected answer from Germany to change this part for free. Now I have checked this website
http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/recall
my car's VIN WDBUF65J14A511588
Can you help me? Can I demand/request second to change SBC for free? Does my car appertain to change this part for free?

I'm not an expert in this matter but your dealership should have never started the warranty work without proper authorization from Germany.

We had a warranty claim and it took them 3 days to find out. Until they denied it they didn't start the work and that is OK for me.

You can ask again, check with a lawyer or simply pay. MB gave a 10+ year warranty on that part but I also understand they have to run a business and can't offer a free replacement forever!

No, they have replaced my friend's car SBC, which was 2003 year E320.
So I can't understand, does my car possess (belong) to replace this part for free? with checking vin code

I have no idea what you're trying to say. All I can tell you is that after 10 years it's a goodwill warranty and MB doesn't gave to honor it. It's a case by case decision.

So you say that my friend's case (that his 2003 year e320 was repaired by warranty for free) is accidental? So I cannot insist/request in MB center Georgia that they have to replace my car's SBC for free?

You probably need a bit more information. Usually the 10 year warranty in the US is from the in service date. So if the car sat on the lot for 6 months or was made at the end of 2003, it's possible that it was still in the 10 year warranty time period. Or your friend took the car to the dealer all the time for service so as a goodwill gesture (accidental) the dealer fixed it for free, but they didn't have to do that. In your case, the car was made in February 2004 so if it went into service soon afterwards then the 10 year warranty would be expired. Also the 10 year warranty is for cars in the US, I'm not sure if a dealer in another country has to honor a warranty from a different country. And if you haven't been to that dealer before, they might just decide it's not worth it to do it for free. You can try and escalate it to the state or national level and see if you can get any help from MB directly. Also if you do a search in the forums, it depends what part actually failed, one might be covered, and the other one might not be. Just depends what codes you have.

So does this mean that Fuel tank components will be covered under warranty for 15 years?

Doubt it. Mercedes is not known to cover but only the bare min. Just had an SBC issue that turned out to be the accumulator. They wouldn't cover even though it's attached to the pump that is covered. I asked "what if the pump goes out next week"? They responded with "then we'll cover it".

That's exactly what it says in the article. I guess one way they could get out of it is if there's no fuel smell, then maybe they won't fix it if you just have a regular fuel pump failure.

The SBC warranty is on the SBC pump, I think the misconception there is that everything on the SBC is covered, but the 10 year warranty is just the pump.

The article reads that the officals didn't find any gasoline leaved from the gas tank. They seriously need to get better glasses or Lasik done.

This was my left and right side (see pictures attached).

I replaced both seals, I used liquid sealant. Nothing helped. So I finally replaced the driver side one which is the one that supposedly leaks only. Will see if this finally stops the fuel smell madness.

I also know that some early cars (2002/2003) need(ed) the entire gas tank replaced. It's a 3k job even at indy MB certified shops which are 1/2 the price of dealerships.

Lastly, they discovered that one of the fuel hoses inside the tank going from sender unit to sender unit wasn't connected and caused the car to stutter like a tractor once the gas level reached reserve and one pushed the pedal to the metal. How in the world can a mechanic forget to connect everything at a dealership which worked on the car before? Unbelievable. I love my indy shop friend for being honest and charges friendship prices.

Here is a more complete article.
http://www.detroitnews.com/story/bus...robe/20800823/

Mercedes — a unit of Daimler AG — told NHTSA on Sept. 4 it will extend the original warranty coverage to 15 years and unlimited mileage on "Covered Fuel Tank Components" in 2003-2009 E-Class vehicles in and 2006-2011 CLS-Class vehicles. Fuel tank components for the warranty extension include the fuel tank, fuel filter/sender, fuel pump, and all related gaskets/seals and retention rings. That letter was made public in recent days by NHTSA.

This sticky is mislabeled it should read bulletins rather than recalls possibly moderator can correct this to read “w211 Bulletins”.

Service Campaigns and Recalls do not expire furthermore if work was performed at cost MB will reimburse cost. DTBs are covered under initial factory warranty period, extended warranty, or CPO warranty only. However, if DTB specifically documents a range (i.e.: VIN, production date, part #, etc.) one can/should argue for goodwill assistance out of warranty.

Re: Warranty Extension for Fuel Tank Components

The letter states:

"It is important that any repairs made under this warranty extension are preformed by an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership."

This is my situation:

I replaced both fuel pumps about 11 months ago...obviously not within the factory warranty period and not by Mercedes-Benz.

Is this a catch 22?

IF this new Warranty Extension for the fuel tank components would have been in place before my needed repairs, of course I would have them done at a MB dealer. However my repairs were nesseary before this extension was put in place by my non MB mechanic.

Am I screwed on reimbursement of my costs from MB?

Sounds like a class action law suite may be appropriate.

Yes, I had the SBC pump replaced just a few months from the 10 year warranty expiration.

I was driving the car at the time. It was like hell getting the car to stop when it failed.
