You are going to have to get an orange fiber optics cable from the dealer (should be about $10-$15 at most) and then run it from your COMAND unit into CD changer. Make sure that you look up MOST ring diagram and properly connect the ends.

Yes, you need to take COMAND unit out. Basically, you are going to unplug one of the orange cables the goes into COMAND and substitute it with the new cable bought at the dealer. Then you plug the cable that used to be in your COMAND into CD changer and create a so-called 'loop'. If you aren't very technical it may be worthwhile to ask dealer for a quote to do the job. I can't imagine that it would be more than $200. It takes about 30 minutes if you know what you are doing.

Best of luck. PM me if you need more help.

i bought the wire today but they didnt have any instock so itll be there on tuesday or wednesday.but heres the great part to let them install it it would be another 150 bucks. thats for labor and then it reprograms the ecu to let it know it has a cd changer now. im not sure if im going to keep this thing if i have to keep on spending money on this thing but hopefully my mechanic can do that programing for me with his mercedes machine thing that he got. but whats that thing with the fan do i need that.

This is a bunch of BS that the dealer told you. All you need is to install CD changer. There is no re-programing needed since your COMAND will recognize CD changer right away. Forget about a fan too. The unit may get a bit warm but it's normal. Navigation drive get pretty hot as well and it's a common phenomena with CD/DVD equipment.

Oh, just to let you know -- $150 for the install is somewhat reasonable and probably one of the cheapest repairs that you are going to get from MB dealer. Just wait until you have to get your next brake job -- I am sure you are going to get sticker shocked then.
