Auxiliary Battery
Took my 05 E500 Wagon in for a service, the dealer says the auxiliary battery needs to be replaced and wants 320.00 to do it. I have searched here and found someone saying that they had theres changed under warranty. This car is under warranty but the dealer says it is not covered. I have also read threads about changing it yourself but figured since its under warranty that I would let them do it. The red battery light did come on during the winter time but I have not seen it in a few months. Can someone set the record straight about this warranty. Thanks.

Autozone GTX 14-BS battery this should be the exact replacement for $69.99
GTX 14-BX FG AGM
Walmart everstart Maxx 14-BS AGM
Interstate CYTX 14-BS (at local firestone)
Delco GTX 14-BS
Napa 740-1866?? Not sure if # is correct
Yacht CTX12-BS ETX-12/12BS
Sears CB12C-A
Yuasa YB12AL-A2
Possible just 14-BS will work.
Battery dimensions
WxDxH 6”x3 ¼”+ x 6”
Note + Terminal is on right side when looking at the back side of the battery.

Mine was replaced under warranty!!!!!
As far as I'm concerned, the battery isn't a wear and tear item, therefore it IS covered under the 4yr 50,000 mile warranty.
Maybe I just got lucky, but if they would have tried to charge me the $300 I would have told them to go pound sand and just gotten a 14BS and done it myself.

The regular battery (not the auxiliary battery) in my car was replaced under warranty. I was surprised it was covered. Even came to the house to replace it. No charge whatever.

By "under warranty" do you mean your car is still under the 4yr/50k warranty? Or do you mean it is under CPO/ELW or some other extended warr-----big difference
ELW stands for Extended Limited Warranty
ELW stands for Extended Limited Warranty

O.K. heres what went down today. After many calls around including MBUSA I found out that the battery is covered under warranty but for only the original 4 year warranty. It is not covered in the extra CPO warranty or the extended warranty for MB which I have also. My mistake was not to take it in when the warning light was first noticed during the winter time but waited for my next service so not to make to many trips to the dealer. My other mistake was not to take it to the dealer (Greenwich CT) were I purchased the car but took it to a dealer that was down the street from were my wife was working. It turns out the original 4 year warranty was up 2 weeks ago and the dirtbags down the street said F.U. I called Greenwich MB today and the SA said to bring it in and he would do the work for free. I called MBUSA about this and received no help at all. I am going on a trip this weekend and need the car so the wife told them to do the work last night. This really sucks as I would have changed this part myself and saved $ if I new this was going to happen. Live and learn, thanks for all the help here and I hope this post will help someone else in the future. And also thumbs up for Mercedes in Greenwich CT.

I got mine replaced a few months ago. I bought the batteries from walmart per in vettdvrs list and it was an easy install myself. If my current one goes bad in a few years that's an "if" I will probably get a braille battery from tirerack since they offer one that has a higher cranking and amperage in the same size.

Since u are in the U.K. and you guys have the steering wheel on the "wrong" side of the car, it kind of makes the whole "driver's side or passenger side" thing a bit confusing.
Look under the hood ( aka - Bonnet ) and in the U.S cars it's on the passenger side by the fire wall. Look for the black plastic cover that states "Battery In Trunk" ( might say "Battery In Boot" in your case ). Remove the black plastic nut and lift up that cover and you will see it.

I am having major problems with this E500, bought new in 2004 by me. Only done 60k miles. Problem - 'CONVENIENCE FUNCTIONS UNAVAILABLE' then 'FUNCTIONS NOW AVAILABLE, this happens a couple of times then 'BATTERY / ALTERNATOR VISIT WORKSHOP' (In white with picture of Battery) This then changes to RED 'BATTERY ALTERNATOR VISIT WORKSHOP' After a while another picture appears in RED saying 'BRAKE DEFECT VISIT WORKSHOP' this is accompanied by bleeps and also I can hear like a relay under the dash clicking every time the bleeps sound. I have visited Mercedes Main Agent and they plugged the computer in and checked, they then said the Alternator has ceased to work and a new one would be £900, shock horror. I took the car to a friend who is a Jaguar Mechanic and he reported the alternator was charging fine but, to be fair, he only tested it when NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE SHOWING. I have read the comments on this forum about 'auxiliary battery' etc but cannot find a thread that seems to get to the bottom of it, am I expecting too much. Has anyone experienced this with a duff alternator or is it something far more sinister like ECU.
Help from you guys would really be appreciated, thanks
The vehicle is now back with MB and they now say following more tests that it is probably the 'Alternator Regulator' that is defective - they are getting one from Germany will be with them Wednesday next week (ordered Friday) cost of part £40 but a further £145 for fitting pus tax - watch this space !!!

As an fyi, Sam's Club also carries the battery; I think I paid around $45. It's an easy install. The dealer wanted an obscene amount. It even has the same manufacturing marks as the OEM.

I too would like information on this, does the smaller batter have a certain voltage or amp it should maintain? or do you replace them every so many years?
Sam's club carry this, is it the exact power rating? do they have them now? thanks
