POWER STEERING PROBLEM 2003 E320 W211
2003 MERCEDES E320 W211
HI GUYS I COULD USE SOME TIPS OR IDEAS ON MY POWER STEERING PROBLEM.
HERE IS THE EXPLANATION ABOUT THE STEERING PROBLEM, ONCE THE CAR IS ON POSITION AND I TRY TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL IT GET HARD, AND MAKES NOISE, THE FEELING OF THE STEERING WHEEL IS LIKE THERE IS ALMOST NO POWER STEERING PUMP AT ALL, BUT ONCE I GIVE A LITTLE OF GAS AND KEEP GIVING GAS AROUND 2000 RPM OR MORE THE POWER STEERING WORKS FINE BUT IT STILL MAKE A LITTLE BIT OF PUMP NOISE LIKE THERE IS NO POWER STEERING OIL IN, BUT THERE IS OIL IN, AND IF IM DRIVING IT SEEMS FINE UNTIL I SLOW DOWN AND TRY TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPOT WHILE MY FOOT IS OFF THE GAS PEDAL IT GETS HARD, SO UNLESS THE CAR IS GIVEN GAS LIKE 2000 RPM AND OVER THE PUMP WORK WORK AND MAKES NOISE.
PLEASE IF SOMEONE KNOWS WHAT COULD POSSIBLE IS LET ME KNOW,
MY GUESS IS THAT THE PUMP WENT BAD.
THANKS YOU
MARIO

Same Power steering problem !
Hiya !
My E270 cdi has developed the exact same problem.Infact totally the same problem, steering starts working over about 2000 Revs and gets hard below it.Not much noise though or maybe in all the reving I don't hear that.
Did you manage to get yours fixed ? any idea/advice on what this problem was !
Was it the pump or the power steering rack ?
Any advice would be appriciated. CHEERS!

A week ago i had the hard steering and noise when turning. i drove for like 10 miles so the noise was less. i checked the oil level and it was below minimum. i added oil and it worked great. just took little amount not much but it made the difference

if u mean y it was lost then it's due to high temperature over long usage.
if u mean where i added the oil then it is next to the engine oil filter cylinder, between the fan and the motor itself.

I had the exact same problem in Australia, no power steering under 2000rpm (cos i did a donut hehehehe).
I bought it to mercedes and they said they never had this problem before. after some diagnosing they said it was the hydraulic power steering pump failure and charged me A$3000 to replace it!
whats the update so far?

My power steering fluid got low after 60,000 plus miles and started making that noise. I did a search and it required the Pentosin CHF11S and bought a quart from a local NAPA Auto around $20

I have this issue of power steering with my e320 2005, I've been using for one and half year now and all of a sudden the steering wheel started getting harder and harder. So I took it to a mechanic workshop. I replaced the power steering pump, it became soft again, and after test driving it became hard again, I changed the steering switch, but still the same, my mechanics removed the power steering rack and applied grease, still no improvement, what can the problem be? Please advise. Thanks.
