ipod integration - where do you route the ipod cable?
I would like to know how everyone routes the ipod cable. I have a 2006 w211 with the sliding center console door. I would very much like to place my ipod in the center console/arm rest. When I took out the cup holder piece, I discovered a hole in the front going into the gear shifter section. I thought, wow, that's perfect. However, the hole is not big enough to pass the connector through from either end. I suppose the next choice is the glove compartment. But I can't find any passage inside the compartment out to the radio section. I suppose I can take out the aux connector, there will be a hole, then. But this is even smaller than the hole in the center arm rest. So, my question is, even if your ipod integration unit is installed by a shop, how exactly do they pass the ipod cable to whichever the compartment you connect your ipod in today? Many thanks for all of your helps!

How easy/hard is it to remove the center console? I want to do that but don't know where to start. I watched a video of itronics installation, but the part on how the cable is passed into the center console is missing.

In this forum a member posted a very detailed, step-by-step (with pics) process of how to feed the cable from the glove box to the center console. I saw it about a month or so ago.

iPod Placement
I removed my ashtray and drilled thru the back of the ashtray base, cleaned it out with a Dremel {to make it a square opening and cleaned up the burs}, felt lined the bottom {to minimize vibration}, and lay my iPod in there. I have an old-school (Read that as large) iPod and it fits perfect with the mods as outlined. I figure, when I sell the car I'll just pop my iPod out and slide the ashtray back in.
I got the guide for the install from this site - might try searching for it. If not,
I have the install guide somewhere. PM me with your email and I'll send it.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I ended up enlarging the hole in the center console without taking it out. The hole is in oval shape, about an inch on the long side. After loosing the gear shifter cover, I could pass a pipe saw (the one with a strand of steel wires) through the hole and just enlarged that way. Thanks, again!

i actually instaled a 12v adapter under the cup holder tray today, that way i dont have to have anything open to expose a dc plug(i hate having the font ash tray or rear compatment open), so now i charge my phone in the center concole and have my aux plugged into it.. win win
