You have a blown speaker. I think the $150 is high. Try another dealer or parts.com.

Mine sounds like this too.... I know this topic has been covered extensively, and that some dealers will put in a felt strip between the dash and the speaker it self, although this does nothing if the speaker is blown.

I guess the problem here is there are no upgrade replacements for this speaker, just the stock replacement which will also become blown.....

Anybody have an upgrade for this speaker?

As mentioned, this is a common issue. After much angst and researching, I did not find an adequate replacement that fit in the space, bit the bullet and had the spkr replaced by the dealer. The sound quality improvement is substantial and I am very satisfied.

My son now drives my '05 C350 with the same center dash speaker problem.

Dad went with plan B - I disconnected the speaker (he never noticed).

My car does this only with certain audio tracks....I believe it's just resonance of the speaker grill. I told my dealer about it but they could not replicate the problem. My speaker is not blown and only "rattles" occasionally.

DJ ...

I replaced mine few months ago so I'll check for part number at home .. purchased from parts.com (like $70) and it took all of 15 minutes to replace ... also had to replace the heater blower motor which was starting that annoying squeek and replaced in 30 minutes ... many items are very easy to do on these cars.

OEM 1698201802 replaces 2118203602 installed at production (both 73.20 @ parts.com) not certain what the difference is.

I've either got a blown center speaker or fan blower squeek. Is there a DIY to replace either?

Edit: thought I found my answer for the speaker removal, but it only applies to 2003 w211...

bought an 04 E500 a few weeks ago.
just pulled the bad center speaker and will be calling the $tealer tomorrow to see about price and availability.

I see the "list" price over at parts.com is $48.50 and the "final price" is $34.80 for a replacement.

Does anyone know if this is an OEM, or aftermarket.

thanks

What part # are you using to look it up? The part # in the thread lists the speaker at $102 MSRP; $73.20 parts.com.

Did you replace it with a new one? So you have two magnets in there now?

nope didn't replace it so no sound from center. don't really hear the difference in volume except there seems to be more bass now.

I browsed to it and did a manual search.
it must be one of instrument panel speakers for non Logic 7 systems.

I found the one I needed and you are correct. $73.20
The local dealer here in Bellevue, WA quoted $113 in stock.

SO has anyone ordered that speaker from parts.com and does it have the L7 sticker on the back of the magnet?
