2004 E320
2004 Tire Decision

I have narrowed my E320 tire selection down to the following three. In addition to the individual tire Sale Price is the following: State taxes, disposal fees, alignment,RH, balancing, and Nitro. These misc. charges are identical since I've gotten this price quote from one dealer.
1) Bridgestone Turanza Serenity: per tire ........ $155.00
2) Conti Pro Contact: per tire ......... $165.00
3) Goodyear Assurance Comfortred Touring :per tire ........ $185.00
Goodyear has the best wear warranty followed by Bridgestone and Conti in that order. Is Goodyear worth $30.00 per tire more and how about noise, handling, etc..
Bridgestone and Goodyear are offering a $100.0 rebate until Sept/30.
I appreciate all/any first hand comments.

Bought 4 Potenzas 1.5 year ago.
They seem to stick to the road like chewing back on dry pavement, but on wet roads I have lost traction momentarliy a few times, as in aquaplaning.

Also noticed the tires are not wearing evenly and took the car in for 4 wheel allignment at the MB dealer, and they said the tires are not good for a 4-Matic vehicle, something about the tires "chopping" or what not..

At any rate, after the 4-wheel allignment, the tires became more noisy, as in a drum like noise, even my wife commented on it.

Took it back to the dealer and they said everything is within limits, no more adjusting to do.

Sooo, would I recommend the tires? Not sure anymore, too noisy.

As for wear, the are down to 7/32 after about 12K miles.

The AMG crowd swears by the Michelins.

The Potenzas was right around $700.00 with all the fees and road side assistance, taxes, etc.

The Michelins would have been $1050.00 or so.

Noise, cupping is a major tire problem why I chose this position.

Of the ones listed the Conti is the only one I would buy and they came on my car, but none of the ones you list would be my 1st choice but the ones I use cost about $40 more/tire.

Bridgestone Turanza Serenity - I am on my third set on different cars. I think you know why I keep buying them. Best tire in the rain that I have ever had. Smooth and quiet.

My tire dealer happens to be a Cadillac dealer that no one else can match in prices. What specific Michelin model would be the best for my vehicle? I am not an aggressive driver and don't need a sport tire. My 2004 has 61k miles on it and I only add about 5k per year. My previous MB had Michelin Harmony's which are not available for this car. Thanks again for your advise.

Now you are finally on the tire I use and will only use Michelin's.

I have been using the PS2's but they were discontinued so what ever tire is a replacement for the PS2. Take a look at the new Cadillac's in the show room what they have. I went through 3 brands of tires replacing every 10,000 miles due to poor/harsh ride/noise where I could not hear the radio, cupping and 3 alignments with tire shops telling me it was alignments because their tires could not be a problem, after all "they are good as Michelin's".

I finally went back to Michelins and found they solved all my issues and won't buy anthing but Michlin's. But of course your driving habits, weather and roads may vary giving you different results.

2018 E400 4matic Wagon
I bought Michelin Primacy MXM4 in 245/45R17 for $194 each with $70 off for a set of 4 from Tire Rack last March. Very happy with the selection. I also bought 4 new sensors from them for $69 each, so I don't have to replace them and have the tires dismounted/remounted/rebalanced again when the sensor batteries wear out. Make sure you get them road-force balanced on a Hunter 9700 balancer and you won't have any vibration issues.

Had Contis when I bought the Wagon, they were okay, but beyond 50% of life as there was leaks and problems, so I finally took 'em off to buy Potenzas, cheaper than the Michelins, more expensive than the Firestones.

The Potenzas worked good for me for a while, then I discovered wear on the inside, then noise, then floating on wet roads at high speed.

Right now the love affair is over with the Potenzas and if I am keeping the Wagon, will go for Michelins...Live is to short to drink cheap beer...
