Can't remove oil filler cap !

'04 E320 4 matic.

OK guys, for the life of me I can't get the oil filler cap to unscrew. What am I missing here? (hell of a way to start off a project). This sucker just won't budge.

Wrap the cap with a small rag and with a large pair of pliers---rotate counter clockwise!!

Yea Plutoe, the only problem with that is that I'd have to remove the engine cover to get a grip on the sides of the cap. Was looking for the short version.

Edit : @Quadcammer....thanks, that did the trick. One good tap and it broke loose. I was just surprised that it was so tight.

don't bother removing it.

drain oil from the bottom, remove oil filter canister.

once oil is drained, replace the plug and fill the oil through the much larger oil filter opening.

its faster and easier and doesn't require the oil filler cap off.

also removing that engine cover takes approximately 2.5 seconds.

lift up in the front and the back and slide towards the front of the car.

Thanks, my intention is to drain from the bottom and fill from the top. Just wanted to check the cap first.
Makes sense to fill via the larger filter housing though.

Removing the cover does take a little longer than 2.5 sec....remember those hoses. Plus, I didn't have to so all is well.

to get at the filler cap, you don't remove the hoses.

The front piece of the engine cover separates from the airbox.

After you get the cap off put oil on the cap o ring so it won't stick next time.
