Uh oh...New Generation 5er

BMW just released official video and pics of the new generation 5er...
To be honest I think it looks pretty good - the 212 may be in for a bit of trouble.
What are everyone's thoughts?
Not as sporty as I expected.

This car will be no match for the W212 E63.....the domination will continue, but this time it will involve both the straight line and the twisties.
The current E60 BMW guys seem very put off with the new design, but that's to be expected...lol.

That was my reaction as well. I don't like the tail lights either and it looks fat in the middle. For all the hype I'm pretty unimpressed. I'll be in the minority but I don't think it looks much better that the current series.

I'll probably be going back to BMW now that those Banglized POSs are gone.
My next car will be the F10 M5.
No match for the E63? Sorry, but it will be a really big challenge to the E63 with it's TT motor. And it will still have superior steering and better chassis. Unless one prefers the softer E63 ride (which is understandable.) The W212 E63 is a good compromise for soft ride and adequate handling, but still a bit of a numb tiller. Anyway MB/AMG will be going TT soon, too.
The kidneys are still a bit too big, imho. I'd like to see them not so 7 series-like.
My overall favorite is still the classic E39, fwiw.

AMG
as much as i like E class, This new 5 series is much better looking and has much better interrior, I dont know what was the interior designer thinking, w211 itnerior was much better.
Anyway I think it looks like smaller version of 7 series. I too will be looking forward to buy new m5! I mean 550 hp + endless tuning potential will make new m5 a king, and handling again will be on m5 side.
Luv it.

From the pics the new 5 series is a HUGE improvement over the current car. I'm actually starting to like the new E sedan and like the looks with the 350 sport rims vs the 550's amg styled wheels (not one of AMG's best efforts imo)...I will be curious to see the new 5 in the flesh before I make any final judgements but so far so good. I've also seen pics/renderings of the new 6 series which if hold's true it would be an improvement over the current car and it appears to have a folding hard top.

The new 5 doesn't look awful, but it just doesn't stray far from the fold. It's based off the new 7 that just hit show rooms and a new 3 is soon to follow in the same mold. They really didn't take too many chances this time around, it doesn't look a whole heck of a lot different from the out going model. I will give them a wee bit of credit for trying something new with the 5 Gran Turismo model (which probably means the death of the 5 Wagon in the States) but the over all look and feel doesn't deviate that much from the out going 5.
Look at the W211 and the W212 E class, MB kept the feel of the out going model, but breathed in some new needed fresh air. Enough so that owners of the W211 would feel that their cars look dated enough to want newer models. I don't see that with the new 5, maybe its because I'm just a casual BMW fan, but I don't see that much difference between the new and the old model to justify purchasing one.

If they've de-Bangleized the a$$ then it might be pretty nice looking. I like the absence of "flame surfacing" too.

It seems like I may be in the minority here, but I think the new E is safe. The front of the new E is outstanding - it looks sporty and refined. The front of the new 5 doesn't raise many emotions for me, although I admit that the rear of the 5 has slightly more appeal than the E. But from the side the lines are pretty similar as well as the interiors.

The new 5 is an attractive car, but I wonder if BMW is going to follow suit with MB and drop the price. If this is the case then it will be a real competitor. The 2010 E is a phenomenal value for the price (in my opinion) and can't be touched by BMW... Especially between the E550 and the 550i.
Has anyone else noticed that the front of the new BMW 5er and the rear of the W212 both sort of just "fall off" the car? I think adding the lip spoiler solves this problem with the W212, but I'm not sure of any mods that would fix the front of the Beemer.
Cheers.

I think now; for the first time the current E (W212) looks as cool and aggressive as the 5 (F10). The 5's interior looks amazing! The exterior looks good, but a little boring.
I don't like the elegant look of the W211 very much, too much of a old man’s car.

You must be one of those "true aficionados" they speak of.
From now on I will adjust my vocabulary accordingly.![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
From Wiki (yes norb... I know it's more internet "BS"... especially from Wiki):
The English slang terms Beemer, Beamer, Bimmer and Bee-em are variously used for BMWs of all kinds, cars, and motorcycles.
In the US, specialists have been at pains to prescribe that a distinction must be made between using Beemer exclusively to describe BMW motorcycles, and using Bimmer only to refer to BMW cars, in the manner of a "true aficionado"and avoid appearing to be "uninitiated."

I must be weird because I am not impressed. Its not eye catching, its just a car. The prev gen caught my eye this one doesnt... maybe I need to see it in person but the pictures dont turn me on. It seems that it has a couple guys here going wild but it just looks like an expensive grocery getter. Dare I say I think the toyota Camry made more of an attempt at style than BMW 5.
