E350 Cabin Air Filter
I wanted to install a new cabin air filter and started a search on the web. I enter in the vehicle information at various sites and come up with two different filters. One of them is rather trapezoid in shape and the other is more squarish. I went ahead and bought this one on Ebay and hope I made the correct choice. Does anyone know if this is the correct one?

It's underneath the glove compartment on the left side near the firewall. I had to take out the 3 screws close to the front of the underside of the glove box. Then I lowered it enough to unplug the wire on the right which has a small clip. Then I unplugged the wire on the left which just pulls straight out. Then I just kind of pulled and twisted the panel out, (it's fairly flexable). To make it easier, I pulled the carpet from the firewall forward and folded it over. YOu will then see the cabin filter with a slide plastic piece. You slide it to one side to release the filter. After installing the new filter, I just reversed the procedure. It's not too difficult, but kind of awkward. I saw a diagram somewhere on the forums but don't remember where. I replaced it with a Carbon / Charcoal type for $14.95 on ebay. Looked exactly like the one that came out. Also free shipping.

I ordered a cheapie on line as well and even though it 'looked' the same the plastic piece the filter is attached to was slightly larger than the hole and wouldn't fit.

I had no problems at all installing the filter I received. It went into place very easily and the plastic slide was no a problem. "Better odor filtering capabilities?" Whatever...better charcoal, treated with frabreeze?

I received the the $14.95 filter. I compared it to the Mann filter that I removed. They both had the same number of pleats. However, the no name filter's element was slightly thiner to the touch. And as mleskovar warned, the plastic base needed some trimming with a razor blade for it to seat properly up into the collar under the dash. It wasn't difficult but it added 20min to the job! (a pita) It was a real tight fit so it was hard to get the sliding clamp to lock into place. Personally, I will order a name brand next time around.

When I pulled down the panel about 3-4inches I disconnected the two wires from the panel (circled) and removed the panel. The panel is very flexible. Once removed, you can see the white bracket that slides to unlock the filter. But first you must also remove these little metal c-clamps from the left and right ends of the filter base (the left one is circled). Then you simply slide the filter down and out. In the last picture you get a close up of the two c-clamps and the three torx bolts. That little curved needle nose plier I had was perfect to unhook the c-clamps. HOPE THIS HELPS.

This is an example of something that had to be trimmed in order for the collar of the filter box to fit into the "lip" of the inexpensive filter's base. In this picture it's hardened glue residue that needed to be removed. There was also some plastic tabs that had to be cut on the other side.

EEuroParts has the Mann part (CUK29005) for only $18.05. I installed it in my C Class last weekend, it's the same part for the E Class.
This is same as a genuine filter.
Except, Mercedes & Mann have updated the filter. The filter element no longer goes to the very top, it has a rubber piece at the top now for some reason, maybe it seals better. This is like the 3rd or 4th revision to the filter, and the newest.
$18.05 from original manufacturer is pretty good deal.
