Looking at used 10-13 e350 or e550 common problems ?
looking at 10-13. How reliable are these cars and what are the common problems . is there certain years better than others?

W211 E320 & W212 E550
Air ride on the 550's has been an issue and rotor warpage. Replacement bags the last few years have been much better. I had 1 leak when it was 3 months old so 6.5 yrs later still holding well. I've had no problems, no rattles, just occasional Pano roof pop on cold/hot days bout it. Maybe others will chime in but both cars pretty solid and the NA 550 motor is bullet proof, smooth, crazy quick!!

thx, also ill def stay away from a cl550
So is there any year differences for options availabel?
2013 is the year new motor started and doesnt have tensioner issue?
do all 4matics have the tsb?
is the comman system ok or is that just a problem with cl550
how much are these parts outside of warranty im just curious

Just how much did you want to spend? On the E350, 2010-2011 had the 268hp motor, 2012+ had the 302hp direct injection engine. E550's are a bit more money, 2012+ had airmatic as an option, 2010-2011 was standard. With airmatic out of warranty, you're typically looking at 1k per corner. Not sure the window motors really go, radio upgrades are tricky as there aren't too many options out there, otherwise you pick up a used one on eBay or you send it out to be repaired. If you pick up a CPO model from an MB dealer, it will come with a 1 year warranty and you can buy 2 additional years worth of warranty.

im leaning towards a e550 , i will stay away from a cl550
were all e550 for 2010-2013 motors the same throughout the years?
how can i easily identify p01 and p02 package?
if it has this package will it still have airmatic as an option?

Most cars had P1, P2 is basically the bi-xenon headlamps and keyless go. For 2010-2013, it would be the headlamp washers in front of the headlights. There's also a warning sticker under the hood warning of high voltage. That's only if you get those pictures. Keyless go would be the square indentation on the door handle which would be the lock sensor. Instead of a key in the ignition, there would be a keyless go button, but if you don't see it, it doesn't mean it doesn't have it, lots of time they take off the button so someone doesn't steal it on a test drive or someone has already stolen it, they're cheap on eBay. Or you can just run it through a vin decoder if they post the VIN.

For 2012 to 2013 how can I tell if it has the amg package and what does it include I'm seeing different info everywhere .
also , I see some 2012 have the new steering wheel and others don't ?

You can't trust the car dealers to post accurate info. The VIN decoder is the way to go, if the car has the option, it will be in the vin. Read the brochures and the reviews, those are more accurate. The steering wheel was an option just like the AMG package. The only real way to get everything you want is to custom order a new one. Its very hard to find a used one with all the options you want as most of them out there are base models that just have the P1 package and maybe one or two other options.

Your best buy is a vehicle that has a service history, and in most cases buying it from the original owner, or as a lease return as a CPO from a dealer. A VMI(Vehicle Master Inquiry) includes the vehicle build info (Data Card), and service history. FWIW it only took me four E class purchases before I bought a V8.

also how do the 2012+ cls550 compare to the e class they have been catching my eye lately.... are the more reliable or less prone to problems ?

After having bought three E class six cylinders (W124, W211, & W212) I always told myself that I would be satisfied with the 30+ HP increase over my last E. To make a long story short I read too much about the M278 V8, and 2014 being the last year for the E550.So, I asked my dealer to find a CPO E550, and they did. The CLS550 is the same powertrain as the E class , so I would assume the drivetrain problems wouldn't be an issue. The CLS550 only seats four, and insurance was more than an E class. A staggered wheel setup on the CLS also adds to additional costs of ownership. Good Luck!
