That's what I said. The mechanic (two if them at the same place) said he didn't hear anything that sounded like an exhaust issue.

They didn't rack it. Just popped the hood and took it for a drive (with me pointing out the noise).

Maybe buy high heat resistance tape from amazon to tape it back flush against the plastic barrier/wall if the dealer won't take care of it.
I am assuming you are referring to the material shown in the picture.

It looks to be in pretty good shape to me. While there is just a tiny bit sagging forward, I cannot imagine that's responsible for the noise I am hearing.

How did he determine they had at least 6 months left? Clairvoyant? They are a rubber item that wears out with time/age. I've replaced them on cars with 50k, 20k, doesn't matter. When they are bad they are bad, there's no set time that they work perfectly.

have you listened to the recording? I would be a tad bit surprised if that sound is because of mounts, but, hey, I'm new to this, so that's why I'm asking.
It's quiet in the video but that distinct tapping like an exhaust leak is what happens when the mounts are collapsed. The torque/load causes direct contact where there should be insulation in the mount and it transmits that vibration/noise.

Mounts are easy on that car. Don't look for a magic fix, just fix the actual issue.

Thanks for you comments, @ItalianJoe1
He was estimating based on the amount of vibration on the steering wheel.
While I definitely would have preferred a visual inspection, he seemed to know what he was talking about. No?

New engine and transmission mounts installed and guess what?...

Problem solved.

What I've learned:
- I am more sensitive to sound than most people. Some other Mercedes owners (including 3 Mercedes mechanics) thought the sound was normal. I knew it was not (and I've owned a Mercedes for only 4 weeks).
- Mercedes cars can, in fact, be almost as quite as Japanese cars in the cabin.
- Where to get my Mercedes fixed. I found an awesome mechanic who was really understanding and fixed the issue for a fraction of the Mercedes dealer's cost.
- These forums are quite helpful. Thanks to everyone for your input!
- @ItalianJoe1 is the man! He was the first to call out the fix and was right on.

Here's video after the new mounts, in case you want to compare to my earlier video

LOL. I was driving to the gas station, when I made the video.

I have not yet noticed a change in shifting. However, I just had the mounts installed, so I was paying more attention to the sound.

After watching/listening to your YouTube videos, I don’t think you’re more sensitive.

Theres definitely a big difference.

Also, my 2016 E350 is very quiet from the interior. (The engine seems to be noisy/slightly clackety at standing idle from the outside... Maybe I’m over sensitive!)

Glad you got it fixed and listened to advice. Don't ever go back to the idiot mechanic who steered you away from the problem.

$800 including labor and tax; 4 hours

While I could have gotten it a bit cheaper with another mechanic, I trusted this guy.

Thanks for sharing, had the exact noise, and new motor/transmission mount fixed the issue. It was however a pain the rear to replace, did that in my garage in about 5 hours all together.

Was it under warranty ? or How much does it cost you to replace Engine mounts ?

My indy tech told me this will need 9 hrs to replace engine mount.

I wonder how much more difficult it is to get in there for e550. According to this, http://www.mercedesmedic.com/diy-eng...mercedes-benz/ e350 and e550 are not that much different, and like I posted above, I did them in my garage with zero experience working on these, without a lift. Sounds like you may need to shop around. Because your is a 4matic, the passenger side may not be pulled from the back of the exhaust side, so alternator may need to come out, but still, 9 hours sound fishy to me.

2010 Mercedes E 350
2016 E350 noise

Hello everyone.

I purchased my 2016 E350 with 30.000 miles 4 months ago, and I have the same noise, coming from the right side of the cabin, throttle-like sound exactly like the one in the video. I'm sure that the mounts are still in good , and still confused about the noise. Sometimes it's bothersome. On higher speeds and RPM, that sound disappears, and the car is quiet more than multiple cars I've driven. Its only occurring from a red-light stop or city driving at lower speeds. Anyone found solution? I took it for inspection when purchased and thr mechanic said everything is fine.

P.S. my previous car was 2010 E350 with 140.000 miles and it didn't sound like that at all. By the way, I test drive a 2013 E350 and sounded loud as this 2016 E350. Is it the new engine for that model with higher torque and horsepower "just" louder? Or is something wrong? Thanks in advance
