facelift HK7 audio

the HK audio in my 2016 sounds lovely at modest volumes, but I've noticed that the bass can be a bit, I dunno, boomy and flabby sounding on more bass intensive sorts of music turned up to moderately loud. I don't mean rap music at neighborhood shaking levels, just something like this track turned up to reasonable loud volume....
(Crooked Still featured a double-bass and cello)

now I'll admit, the album this track is from prompted me to add a small subwoofer to my old Volvo 780 turbowagon, heh.

where *is* the sub in the E350 4matic wagon, anyways, sounds like its under the center of the dash but hard to tell. has anyone done any upgrades of that sub in place? I don't want some clunky big box in the back of the wagon, we got that to haul stuff. gotta be able to use the back seats for adult passengers, or fold them down for more cargo.

ok, taking this forward.... dug into the XEntry Parts Information for my VIN, and determined I have a plastic bass box A2128202202 somewhere in the back of the wagon... behind the left rear wheel?

it looks like this...

I read something that suggested these modules are connected with fiber optics? if thats the case, I would need to keep the module in this speaker, but remove the actual speaker, and replace it with a load resistor, wired to an amplifier to drive a real woofer put somewhere.

yeesh, thats kinda complicated. I like simple.

Pull up the forward panel (3rd row seat back), pull up and remove aft panel (3rd row seat bottom) and then pull up the storage compartment floor. That's where it is on ours, next to the spare tire.

I realized we may have left the "Surround sound" setting on, and that might be causing the boomy bass.

Sedans have different setups, of course, but I find the audio quite good. I actually have the bass turned to -1 or something.

I can never decide on Logic7 surround setting on/off. Some songs sound better with it on, some sound better with it off. A couple of the 14 speakers don't have any output with it off, IIRC.

Just me, but I find the music example offered sounds great, as is. The bass is quite distinctive, and appropriately mixed. If it were me, I wouldn't touch a thing.

I like the Bass in the HK7 system in the W212 much better than the Bose system in my C320.

Yup. Pretty much this for me as well. I do have one speaker that seems to come on sporadically, but the overall sound is great.

ya know, there's a couple folding chairs, and a small folding table on top of the weathertech mat in the back of our wagon.... I wonder if THAT is muddying up that sub in the back.... hah!

I've often thought car subs should be ported under the back seats, facing forward so the bass 'hits' under the front seats and surrounds you from the bottom up
