Serpentine (V-ribbet) belt Lenght M272

Dear all,

What is the exact Serpentine (V-ribbet) belt lenght in mm for engine M272 - 2011year - 268hp?
My VIN is: WDDHF8HB1BA484379

I've ordered a kit with the V-belt (Gates), 2 drive pulleys (INA) and belt tensioner but after 1 day of driving I got the engine light on the dashboard (no other signs of something wrong). Still have that little noise and It seems that that the V-belt is not running very tight even on the 10th sec of the video it losses like 100rpm for a moment.
You can see who the belt is moving on the pulleys.

https://streamable.com/323k1l

I still didn't get the error code but I think the belt is not the proper one. Forgot to measure the belts before changing it so I don't know who much the original and the new one are.
The car is on 100'000miles and never had any problems before.

Here you go. Depending on the supplier, sometimes they spec a belt 5-10 mm different in length. I suspect that to covers multiple applications and the tensioner should be able to cover that delta.

Does anyone have used a Drive Belt dressing ever?

I wouldn't recommend drive belt dressing. My understanding is it's a stop-gap to stop belt squeal while you get the parts to fix it.

I just came back home and checked my belt (W212-M276 engine) with good lighting, and I was looking for the wobble I see in your video. Mine has none, I can barely see the edges of the belt moving on the idle pulley, i.e. the width is constant on either side of the belt as it moves.

Others can pitch in if that is normal for the M272 (I doubt it, and I do not have the W211-M272 close by to check), but if I were you I would be certain to know where the wobble comes from before putting another part into the mix. I do not think the belt system is meant to have lateral motion, robust to it perhaps but not by design.

My 2c

PS: On the belt dressing, I would not use it at all unless I am going on a date and I do not want to arrive with a squeaky vehicle

optical illusion

Is this a funny optical effect from the belt markings ?
Your tensioner and idlers look good.
Imagine that your belt can not wabble that much over every pulley...

Hello Cali ,

I could agree that it could be an optical effect when looking at the tensioner pulley where the belt markings meet the pulley; however, if you look at the tensioner pulley with respect to its base, i.e. the stationary part, there might be another optical effect with the lighting and the motion of the pulley surface. .

I would love to see it in person to know.

Hey Juan, how is your E doing these days?
😷
I think you're right about this wicked belt. It's not just optical, something's off here. We can see it walk around from side to side.
Is any of these pulleys wobbling ?

The car is doing great, , after the RearSam soldering, the new AUX battery, and the grounds maintenance ( I did something similar to the W211 while searching for an empty tank ). I still have to do the seat module you posted recently (and lubricate both screws), but I am not doing the fuel pump wiring, nor messing with the cluster. I will end up with too many broken plastics.

I think it is time to remove the belt, and check the play on every pulley (even the new ones), and go from there. My bet is on the large one NorthWest from the crankshaft pulley, i.e. is it the water pump on the M272?. I need to see a diagram or open my sister's W211 (which did not have the wobble either 10 days ago).

The OP mentioned there is a noise still. Perhaps it is time for a pipe, broom, hose, or stethoscope to the pulley on the water pump? My sister's W166 has some noise coming from the belt system, but it seems the tensioner is adjusting too often and I do not see that motion in the OP's video

Do you still have the old pulleys? I remember on mine, one of the pulleys has a washer on it and the other didn't. Can't remember which one. A missing washer will throw it off. Maybe check the other car or check EPC.

Just had my friend pull the part number for my GL550 Belt which is this exact part number: A 003 933 72 96 (0039937296) It specifies on Xentry that this is 2397mm or 94.37". FCP Euro's information might be off. (2404mm is 94.64")

Interestingly enough, it is not only FCP Euro which reports that length:

https://eeuroparts.com/product/gates/K060947

This site lists the same part number for multiple brands, and guess -> Multiple lengths.
