Command Knob NOT the usual issue

My command knob module, including:

the knob

The C button

The arrow button

has stopped working. All actions are dead

is it a fuse? Anyone know which one?

Also, dones C button and arrow button illuminate in Orange? I dont remember and it would help to know if the module has no power for a broken fuse

two birds, one stone...

This is an electronic module built with marginal connections.

Either replace or resolder loose pins if it was not liquid soaked
rotary dial + tranny selector module
rotary dial + tranny E/S selector module

Nearby tranny button is the same way: solderless module.

Is the module protected by a fuse?

I am sure it gets powered somehow from a fused circuit.

This is a 250mA low power circuit.
There's 0.1% chance you're dealing with a "fuse" issue...

Choices are replace module or repair poor connections. Cost less than $1,500.

disabling gremlins

-- These LIN modules are built with poor connections that oxidize.
-- Sometimes drinks get spilled...

You can SIMPLY DO A FAULT-RESET that will last sometime until poor networking condition is flagged again.

I have pics of the inside of these units... I got the whole chassis surveyed for gremlins nest

solderless connections
solderless connections

OPTO-COPLER + loose pins
OPTICAL SENSOR + loose pins

The optical sensor is sensitive to dusty contamination.
Same thing inside EIS Module as well.

Repair is either replace $$$$ or a 5mn quick 4x solder job... As mentioned: free reset also effective.

Does anybody know if the command knob / switch needs to be coded if it's replaced?

I picked up a used one from a wrecking yard and was wondering if I can do the shaft swap on it, then just swap with the one in the car.

Thanks,
Ian

yes, you can try directly without coding it: high chance "no coding" necessary for these non-essential modules -

Unplugging modules will record faults
Clear the stored codes afterwards

Do use a scanner even though it could work without one... pays for itself!! 🤞
