Im having an issue with my E-Class and would really appreciate some advice before I start replacing parts randomly.
When starting the car cold in the morning, the engine runs very rough, almost like its running on 3 cylinders. Once it warms up and the idle settles, the engine smooths out.
However, when driving on open roads after warming up, I occasionally get jerks or hesitation at certain RPM ranges.
The timing chain has already been replaced. The timing chain has no play at all.
I manually checked the timing using the locking tools, and based on the attached photos, the intake camshaft, exhaust camshaft, and crankshaft are all aligned correctly.
Sometimes I get the following fault code:
P001600 - The Position Of The Intake Camshaft (Cylinder Bank 1) Is Implausible Relative To The Position Of The Crankshaft
There is no check engine light on the dashboard.
I also checked the camshaft magnets. The intake cam magnet is clean and dry (no oil), while the exhaust cam magnet had just a tiny bit of oil.
On cold starts, I also hear a brief knocking sound (1-2 seconds) right after the engine fires up.
Im currently suspecting the camshaft adjusters, but Im also considering the crankshaft position sensor or intake camshaft sensor, as the fault only returns after a day or two of driving if I clear it. Also, using a Launch diagnostic tool, I noticed that the intake camshaft position is very erratic at idle.
While driving, it sometimes drops as low as 80 degrees. If I activate it manually from the diagnostic tool, the engine indeed runs quite rough.
update! thanks to this post I managed to solve the problem!!! 2 months ago the intake manifold gaskets were changed. apparently whoever installed the engine with the swirl flaps forgot to install it properly. thanks to whoever made this post. now the car runs like a charm!

And your DTC report is a good database, because I never expected it could go as far as giving the type of DTC you got. Nice Info !!!
Now we all learn more.
Launch ThinkDiag 4.0 . I will check for the new values today to see if they changed.
And also today l, when i get to work, I will use an original xentry to compare the values.
Maybe, based on the infos that come from lambda sensors (upstream constant 2v) the car tries to compensate the lack of air by tuning the camshaft
Yes please do test/scan using both before deleting any DTC.
I am curious, Launch is usually good for DTC.
This will add to our database for the future.
