2018 E250 engine noise during acceleration.

Is the 2018 E250 sedan petrol engine beating noise like a diesel normal? It gets louder during acceleration and increased passenger loading.

.
A certain amount of noise is normal due to the direct fuel injection. If the data card for your car has feature B63 the engine noise is being piped in over a speaker.

Just about every M270/274 4 cylinder engine from MB sounds pretty loud, rattly and generally unrefined.

My C300 (also an M274 2.0 4-cylinder, used in every MRA-platform model with the 200, 250, 300 and 350e badge) in Malaysia sounds terrible, but my GLC43 and E400 down under in Australia (both M276 3.0 V6s) sound silky smooth and quiet.

When I test drove the E200, 250 and 300 before eventually deciding to order the 250, I also noticed the not-so-sweet engine noise going up steep hills in low gears but it was not as bad as I had read about in certain forums. To me, it was acceptable and during my test drives, the engine was very quiet otherwise. Granted, I have never driven the E43 or E63 so I likely don't know what I am missing (which is a good thing)

Thanks for your reply. This is my 2nd E250 and I was quite disappointed that it has the same rough beating noise as the first. I did not hear it in the new test drive car. I was wondering if is there a fix to reduce the noise. I used to own a SAAB car that started with the same beating noise new. But after sending it to the workshop, the mechanic were able to reduce the noise and after run-in it disappeared. If the noise is a characteristic of MB E Class, this would be my last.

Had you given any of your cars to MB to check/investigate/fix ? What did they come back with ? If they did not fix the first car, why buy another E250 with the same engine?

Does not add up to me..

Thanks for the reply. My previous car was a E250 1.8 L car which I had for 6 years. The noise got louder as it ages. My current new car is a 2018 model with 2.0 L engine. I had sent it to the workshop 1 week after collecting the car but it still remains the same. During the test drive before I purchased the new car, I did not hear the beating noise from the engine. I have driven direct fuel injection car other than Mercedes and I did not have this issue. Rgds

some M274 had issues with incorrect wrist pin tolerances and dimensions, this would cause a rattling sound during engine load.

Thanks. Has the issue been fully resolved? I found a thread on this issue in Jan to Jun 2017 and from what I read, it seems it was resolved. The OPs car is a 2018 so surely this couldn't have the wrist pin issue?
