This thread shows the reality of how this struggle is a bit overdone across so many years and chassis. 😆

The issue is simply a couple poor adjustments.
No amount of greasing and motor replacement or banging the wheel can replace a quick tweak.

The many TSB repairs released year after year, point at doing additional busy work without adressing the root cause. By now the factory people that analyze failures have a pretty keen idea of what sucks money and are bent on results. 👏

Owners incentive is to keep the steering column in working condition because during collision the wheel is repositioned at high-speed by the SRS module. When jammed you may get served a wake-up blow by the Takata airbag.


> For techies :
Have a look at this fix !
This will show you how to adjust smooth mechanism to resolve jamming & clunkyness.


> For non-techies :
-- Disable "convenience entry" using menus
-- Do NOT BANG on the wheel: column module has many fragile solderless electronic assy that are anything but rugged.

He did a quick job with only a single item limited to the Tilt motion.

This video is a good way to get into fixing these steering columns.

It's interesting to see how W166 share the same component & same issue & ultimately same fix too.

Check post #44, we may be talking about different things.

One case is the steering column getting stuck in its highest position when easy entry/exit is enabled. There is nothing wrong with the function of the motor, it's just jammed, requires a beating and reprogramming.

Mine happened again after the dealer corrected. I simply turned off the easy entry/exit function for now. Have another appointment to resolve.

Yes, leave it to factory trained specialists to apply @konigstiger TSB in #44 or troubleshoot any remaining issues with your convenience entry.

​​​​​​Please let us see the advisor/Tech report how they got yours to operate smoothly

Mine got stuck for the first time today. 2014 C218 model.
I used the "smack it like a red headed step-child" approach....and it worked for me.
Held the switch down and gave it a good downward hit.

What sbout W204 C300 ?

I have the same issue in a C300 2012 that doesn't have the easy entery system. But the up/down function has failed. Sam procedure to fix or is it different ?

Stumbled accross this thread while searching fornsolutions for my 2020 AMG GT. Banging up and down didn't work, but just for good measure, gave the wheel a firm thwack to the side, and that fixed it! Adding this reply in case someone else is in a simar situation. Thank you!
